Martin Braithwaite is likely to move back to France this summer in a permanent deal.

According to the Gazette Live, Braithwaite will leave Middlesbrough this summer, with it looking likely that the forward will be returning to France in a permanent deal.

Braithwaite only arrived at the Riverside Stadium 12 months ago, with Garry Monk reportedly paying £9m to secure his service.

However, after just six goals in 21 appearances, the 26-year-old was shipped out on-loan during the January transfer window.

Braithwaite linked up with Bordeaux in Ligue 1, scoring four goals in 14 appearances for the French outfit.

It is now looking likely that Braithwaite will be returning to France permanently in the summer.

However, it is unlikely that Boro will manage to recoup the £9m they reportedly paid for Braithwaite 12 months ago.

Tony Pulis is looking to shake up the squad he inherited from Monk at the Riverside Stadium, after Boro failed to win promotion back to the Premier League.

Boro were beaten 1-0 on aggregate by Aston Villa in the play-off semi-final.

The Verdict

It’s little surprise to hear that Braithwaite will be heading for the exit door at the Riverside Stadium, after a difficult transition to English football.

Pulis has a lot of talented forwards at his disposal, but Braithwaite isn’t going to trouble the likes of Patrick Bamford and Britt Assombalonga.

Braithwaite’s departure should enable Pulis to bolster his own transfer kitty, as he looks to help Boro bounce back from their play-off disappointment.
