Coventry City have produced plenty of quality players over the years, with Callum Wilson and James Maddison the two standout academy graduates in recent times.

Those pair may have left the Sky Blues at an early stage of their career but they have gone on to have fantastic careers which has included winning caps for England.

And, the next youngster who will hope to make the step up is Sam McCallum.

The left-back has a long way to go before he can be considered as successful as the names mentioned but he could be about to secure a high-profile move, with the Daily Mail suggesting that Liverpool are watching the player.

As our graphic shows, you can understand why the European champions are checking out the 19-year-old because he has the ability to develop into a top player.

Of course, he is nowhere near the standard of current Reds left-back Andy Robertson but Liverpool have made a real focus of identifying young talent with potential and McCallum fits into that category.

Importantly, he also has a lot of traits that are needed for a full-back at a top club.

There is a real emphasis on attacking play and that suits McCallum who looks to get forward at every opportunity for Coventry, with his 26 progressive runs and 61.2% dribble success rate highlighting that perfectly.

The teenager is also capable in possession, with his pass success rate proving that he is decent on the ball, although it's an area he has to keep improving.

However, you have to be able to defend very well if you are to play at the highest level and McCallum's clearances and interceptions show that he is capable at the back.

Again, that's not to say he is the complete defender and the player himself will know that he needs to keep working on various aspects of his play that but the raw ability is clear to see.

That's something that Liverpool have recognised and they will know that McCallum has years to develop into a very good all-round full-back as he's not going to hit his peak for a long time yet.

So, the Premier League leaders interest in the Coventry man may seem like a surprise to those on the outside but the Sky Blues man has a lot of potential and a January deal for Jurgen Klopp's side could look like a shrewd bit of business over the next few years.
