It’s been a really difficult couple of weeks for Leeds United, with Marcelo Bielsa losing a number of key players to injury.

Amongst those have been Patrick Bamford and Kemar Roofe, depriving Bielsa of his two senior striking options.

For Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Millwall, Tyler Roberts was handed his first Championship start, with the 19-year-old lining up as the focal point of Leeds’ attack.

We take a look at Roberts’ performance in our latest FLW Spotlight:

Roberts featured for 68 minutes at the New Den, before Stuart Dallas replaced him, as Bielsa shuffled his pack.

In that 68 minutes, Roberts had four shots on goal but failed to score.

In a busy performance, the teenager won one free-kick, but also committed two fouls.

Other areas of Roberts’ game did impress, particularly his passing. One key pass was made, as well as 11 others, which came at completion of 91%.

The Verdict

Roberts’ performance on Saturday wasn’t clinical enough, with the four chances that fell to him all good goalscoring opportunities. The general feeling was that Kemar Roofe would have scored at least one of them.

However, Bielsa moved to praise Roberts’ all-round game on Saturday, which saw him get into a number of good positions.

Taking a look at Roberts’ stats from the game, it is easy to see why Bielsa moved to praise him.

A 91% pass success suggests that his link-up play was superb, whilst he hassled Millwall’s defenders for over an hour.

A goal against Preston on Tuesday would be terrific for the 19-year-old’s confidence after an encouraging outing at Millwall.
