Ronnie Edwards appears to have an exciting future ahead of him, with the Peterborough United defender impressing in the Championship this season.

The 19-year-old's consistent displays at first-team level at the Weston Homes Stadium have caught the attention of Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur, as per a report from Football Insider.

Edwards has featured 29 times in the league this season, starting 26 of these matches and has proven to be able to deal with the rigours of Championship football.

Still growing physically and athletically, Edwards has an intelligent footballing brain and has the technical ability to match, meaning he is someone who can bring the ball out from defence and can build from the back.

Here, and using Wyscout, we take a look to see if the stats back up the performances on the eye, to better determine if Spurs should strengthen their interest in Ronnie Edwards...

Edwards has won 71.3 of his defensive duels this season, however, this figure drops to 36.9% when focusing solely on aerial duels.

The 19-year-old has averaged 5.36 interceptions per game throughout this season, but, interestingly, he has averaged 7.75 interceptions across his last four games.

Dissecting his playing style a little further, the young defender has averaged over 48 attempted passes this season, with a little over 3 of these being longer passes.

With Edwards averaging over 16 forward passes per game this season, he has an 81.3% success rate when playing in front of him, compared to a 97.1% success rate when playing backwards.
