Nottingham Forest have started the season fairly well in the Championship this year with there being real cause for optimism.

The men from the City Ground might not be right at the top of the tree this season but they have shown glimpses of what they can do if they get some more consistency in the side.

For sure, they do not look like relegation candidates this year and now Warburton will be looking at ways to keep performances and results at a high-level for long periods of time.

Indeed, in that eventuality they'll be serious challengers for the top six and we think that the January window could be vital for Mark Warburton to try and bring in the right players to help do that.

For sure, then, thinking ahead of the window, we've been considering who Forest might sign to bring into their side and bolster their challenge.

Here, then, is who we came up with...

John McGinn

The Hibernian man is rated at £495k by transfermarkt, and could be the extra midfielder that Forest need at the moment.

Liam Bridcutt has proven a pretty strong option in the middle of the park but there's still room for another midfielder in the squad and 22-year-old McGinn could be perfect. The Nottingham Post expects Forest to go back in for him after failed bids in the summer, too.

Gareth McAuley

Forest have wonderful attacking talent and players but they do need to add some defensive nous to their side.

For sure, they're slightly unbalanced at the moment and some fans would like a replacement for Matt Mills alongside Joe Worrall. McAuley, then, could be ideal. He's out of the team at West Brom after years in it and his experience and positioning could help shore Forest up with him rated at £900k by transfermarkt.
