Sheffield Wednesday’s planning for next season can begin, with Jos Luhukay’s side now seemingly free of the threat of relegation in the Sky Bet Championship.

Prior to the international break, Wednesday picked up a crucial 2-1 victory over Leeds United at Elland Road, which will have provided Luhukay’s side with a huge boost ahead of the run-in.

Luhukay, who has endured a tough time since arriving at Hillsborough, now has some breathing space and will begin to look ahead to the summer, where he will be sure to be tinkering with his playing squad.

One thing the Dutchman has stuck by during a testing start to his Wednesday career is a trusted 3-5-2 formation, which is beginning to look impressive as key defenders return.

We are expecting Wednesday to take that system forward into next season, with Luhukay’s recruitment fitting around that formation.

Here is the defence we believe Luhukay could potentially build…

Westwood has missed large parts of this season through injury, however, next year, he will expect to be back in goal.

Hunt and Liam Palmer are competing for the right wing-back berth, but Hunt should edge out his rival heading into next season.

Like Westwood, we haven’t seen much of Lees this season due to injury, however, if the defender stays fully fit, he will be in a back three.

£900k-rated Danny Batth is Wolves’ club captain, but could be on the move if the club are promoted to the Premier League.

The 27-year-old has featured in a back three under Nuno Espirito Santo at Molineux and could be the man to replace Glenn Loovens at Hillsborough.

Van Aken is another that has struggled with injuries this season, but we’ve seen enough of the Dutchman to be impressed.

On the left of a three, van Aken will bring incredible balance.

Due to injuries in central midfield, Reach has been forced to deputise and has done well.

However, with Barry Bannan and Sam Hutchinson now returning, we could see Reach at left wing-back, where he has the potential to excel.
