Sunderland have learned who they'll be facing this season in League One with the EFL fixtures getting released yesterday morning.

The Black Cats face Charlton on the opening day in what should be a good test for both sides and fans of the club will be hoping that they can get off on the right foot.

Prior to that, then, preparation is key and Jack Ross will be looking for his men to deliver some big performances during pre-season to make sure they are up to speed.

To date, the club has games against Darlington, Hartlepool and Grimsby Town arranged for the coming weeks and in that time Ross will look to chop and change to get his side settled.

Here, then, looking at the squad he has right now is the XI he could use against the non-league outfit...

Robbin Ruiter could get the nod for this one. Jason Steele has gone to Brighton and unless the club brings in a new stopper Ruiter should play.

Adam Matthews could start at right-back. He's a solid player who the club will want to keep this summer.

Donald Love has never really hit things off with the club but at League One level he might now shine. Sunderland are looking short of defenders as things stand.

Alim Ozturk is one new defender the club has, though, with him signing yesterday. He's Jack Ross' first signing and will want to make an impression.

Bryan Oviedo remains a Sunderland player for now but there'd be no surprise if that changes in due course.

Lee Cattermole looks set to stick around and he'll want to wipe the slate clean.

Ethan Robson played a bit last season and might get more minutes this campaign.

Lynden Gooch has talent and might get more of a chance to show that this coming season.

£900k-rated George Honeyman is a solid player and if Sunderland can keep him he'll be key.

Benjamin Kimpioka is an exciting young player and could provide some spark to this Sunderland side.

Josh Maja has pace and exuberance. League One will be a tough testing ground but he has the talent to succeed.
