Aston Villa moved into the play-off places with a convincing 3-0 win over promotion rivals, Middlesbrough at Villa Park on Saturday.

Villa dominated the game from start to finish and one man who played a starring role in the fully-deserved win was John McGinn.

McGinn in the subject of our FLW Spotlight this week, so we look into his performance against Boro in more detail.

McGinn couldn't have put in a more complete all-round performance for Villa, and was on hand to provide the assist for Anwar El Ghazi's opener.

McGinn's lung-busting run was rewarded as he fired home just a minutes before half-time to double Villa's lead on the day.

The Scotsman had four shots in total during the game, and he looked like one of their main attacking threats for Dean Smith's side going forward.

The former Hibernian midfielder made 50 passes during the game, and with a 90% pass success rate, the statistics speak for itself.

This includes three key passes during the game which handed his side a number of opportunities to extend their lead over a Boro defence that struggled to deal with Smith's side.

There were doubts as to whether McGinn would adjust to the physical demands of English football, but he's certainly silenced those critics.

If Villa are to have any chance of gaining promotion this season, then Dean Smith will need McGinn to continue this impressive run of form for the remainder of this year's campaign.
