Coventry City will be preparing for another season in the Championship this summer.

The Sky Blues' survival has looked under threat at times this term but their impressive form over the last few months has helped them put distance between themselves and the relegation battle before ultimately securing another season in the second tier.

After Saturday's game against Millwall, the focus for Mark Robins and co. will shift to preparing the squad and the club for the 2021/22 campaign.

Not only could fans be back for next season but Coventry will be returning to the Ricoh Arena and they'll want to ensure that they do themselves justice.

Money is likely to be tight once again this summer but the Sky Blues still need to try and add some quality to their squad, as well as making space for new arrivals.

With that in mind, we've looked back at the January transfer window to identify nine rumours that they must consider revisiting ahead of the summer...

Coventry were one of a string of sides linked with Tottenham's Jack Clarke in the previous window.

The winger eventually joined Stoke City on loan until the end of the season and though he's impressed for the Potters, you feel it's far too soon to talk about him making an impact in north London.

Clarke could well be going out on loan again in the upcoming window and with the Sky Blues likely looking to add some more firepower, signing the 20-year-old would make an awful lot of sense.

There may well be other Championship clubs interested but a move to Coventry would likely mean the Spurs man saw a fair bit of game time, which may sway his parent club.

Declan Drysdale was linked with a loan move away from the Midlands club by the Coventry Telegraph weeks before a loan move to Cambridge United was agreed in the winter window.

The 21-year-old has been really impressive since joining Cambridge and has moved them to within touching distance of promotion to League One.

Even so, you feel the step up to the Championship would be a big one and that Drysdale could benefit from another spell away from the club.

With that in mind, it would make a lot of sense for them to look to send him out on loan in the summer window – as the rumours forecasted he would be in the winter window.

Injury may have meant that Leo Östigard has returned to Brighton ahead of the end of his loan move to Coventry but could he be re-signed in the summer?

The 21-year-old is out of contract this summer and there were suggestions in January that the Sky Blues could land the defender permanently despite interest from the parent club, as they did with Callum O'Hare last summer.

There are a lot of talented, young central defenders at the AMEX Stadium already and after an impressive season with Coventry, the prospect of regular football could mean the Norweigan defender is keen on such a move.

Given his importance for Robins' side this term, it's certainly something that the club should be trying to do.

From one Brighton loanee to another, re-signing Viktor Gyökeres on loan could make a lot of sense for the Sky Blues.

Coventry were linked with the 22-year-old forward midway through the January window and landed him a few days later, beating off competition from Swedish club Malmo.

Gyökeres has hardly pulled trees during his time in Robins' squad but there have been positive signs and given adding more firepower is likely to be high on the list of priorities in the upcoming window, another move would seem to fit the billing.

More of a run at a club he knows could be just what the Swede needs to kick on.

Gervane Kastaneer's loan move to Hearts came very, very late in the window but transfer rumours emerged ahead of its confirmation suggesting that he would be leaving Coventry temporarily.

The 24-year-old winger is set to return to the Sky Blues at the end of the season but it's hard to argue that his performances on loan at the Scottish club, which have brought just one assist in six games, suggest he's ready to contribute for the Sky Blues.

Another loan move could make a lot of sense for all parties involved, while the step down to League One or below could help Kastaneer regain some form.

Gustavo Hamer has been brilliant for Coventry this season, pulling the strings from midfield and playing a key role in their successful survival push.

The 23-year-old still has two years on his current deal with the Sky Blues but there was interest in January and should that reignite, it may just be the right time to cash in.

Hamer was linked with a move to Rangers by the Press Association in the previous window and they could well return for him given the likes of Glen Kamara is touted to join a Premier League club.

Losing the midfielder would be a blow but reinvesting the fee they received for him in Robins squad could be just what they need.

Another of the players that was tipped for a loan move away by the Coventry Telegraph, Josh Eccles stayed with the Sky Blues but has found opportunities hard to come by.

The reasons he was linked with a spell away from the club ring true again ahead of the summer window.

Assuming Coventry hand Eccles an extended deal, loaning him out again would make a lot of sense because he looks like a player that needs game time but isn't quite ready to be a regular Championship contributor yet.

A move to a League One club seems like the best bet for all parties.

Re-signing Sam McCallum on loan from Norwich City has proven a masterstroke for the Midlands club, with the full-back's performances over the past few months key to their successful survival push.

Back in January, Daniel Farke described Coventry as "definitely a great surrounding for him" and hinted that it will take time for him to reach the level needed to join his Canaries squad.

Norwich opted not to recall McCallum in the winter window but the Sky Blues should be pushing to bring him back on loan for the 2021/22 campaign.

Given they've just secured promotion to the Premier League, Farke may be keen to send him back to Coventry.

Having spent the first half of the season on loan with Barnsley, when Matty James returned to Leicester City in January links with a move to Coventry were already rife.

James has been ever-present in the Sky Blues' starting XI since his move was confirmed but he is set to return to the King Power Stadium at the end of the current season.

The 29-year-old does not seem to be part of Brendan Rodgers plans moving forward but with his contract set to run until the end of next season, the Foxes may be keen to move him on this summer.

Another move to the Sky Blues would seem to make sense, whether that's on loan or permanently.
