Charlton Athletic are facing a really important summer transfer window where they will be aiming to make the right additions to their squad to make progress under Nigel Adkins.

The Addicks will be needing to sort out the long-term futures of a couple of key players within their squad and also try and secure some promising signings so that they can address areas of weakness. If they can do that then there is no reason why they can not enjoy a successful campaign in Adkins’ first full season in charge.

There were plenty of transfer rumours concerning Charlton in the January window in terms of potential incomings and outgoings. That is likely to once again be the case during the summer.

With that in mind, we take a look at nine potential transfer rumours from January the Addicks could revisit this summer…

One potential transfer rumour that emerged around Charlton in the winter window was the Addicks’ interest in Millwall’s Shane Ferguson and they could well revisit that interest in the summer.

It was reported that Charlton made a very late January transfer move for Ferguson, with Millwall having thought to have been keen to move on some of their fringe players so that they could make other additions to their squad. However, in the end, he remained with the Lions and was not able to get a move to The Valley.

Charlton will surely be keen to reignite their interest in Ferguson this summer, with the midfielder down the pecking order at Millwall and likely to be made available for a move away. The 29-year-old could be a decent enough addition given his experience and quality.

Another potential transfer rumour that emerged during the January window in terms of players who Charlton were looking to sign involved Crewe Alexandra’s Charlie Kirk. That is a deal they could look to reignite in the summer.

Kirk was thought to be a player that Charlton were potentially interested in bringing to The Valley late on in the window, with the Addicks having reportedly come in with an offer of around £500,000 for him. However, in the end, a deal for the 23-year-old was unable to be reached and that has meant he has remained with Crewe.

The winger is entering the final year of his current deal with Crewe and could therefore be a player that Charlton could get if they make a renewed effort to sign him. The 23-year-old would be a potentially exciting addition to the squad and could add some extra creativity to their attack.

This is another potential move in the forward department that Charlton could look to reignite from the winter window in the summer, with Eastleigh’s Ben House having been on their radar in January.

House was reportedly a player that Charlton, alongside Ipswich Town and Portsmouth, were keeping tabs on ahead of the January transfer window ahead of a potential move for him. In the end, the 21-year-old remained with Eastleigh.

The forward is not the finished article by any stretch of the imagination as of yet, but he is someone with potential and the Addicks might be able to develop him and bring the best out of him in coming years if they were to make a move for him during the summer transfer window.

This is a potential transfer that Charlton will be expected to try and revisit in the summer. That comes after their interest in him in January was converted into agreeing a loan move with Preston for him.

Stockley has been an excellent performer for Charlton since his arrival at the club from Preston and he has managed to add some much-needed goals to the side. The forward has previously indicated he was going to use the loan to put himself out there and remind people of his qualities once again.

A recent report from Lancashire Live has now suggested that Charlton are going to be interested in signing him in the summer and it could take a fee of around £750,000 to make that happen. Given his form and some of the performances he has produced they should surely try and bring him back to The Valley.

One potential player, whose long-term future at Charlton was reported on in January, was forward Chuks Aneke and they will have to revisit his situation again over the summer.

It was revealed by former manager Lee Bowyer in the winter window that contract talks with Aneke would be opened up after the January transfer window had closed. However, since then there has been no confirmation over the striker signing any new deal to commit his long-term future to the club.

As a result, Aneke is set to be a free agent when the campaign comes to an end and surely Charlton will have to look at sorting him out a new deal. Doing that could potentially be key to helping them enjoy a successful campaign next term.

Another potential signing that Charlton could look to make in the summer, after their initial interest in January, is Exeter City midfielder Joel Randall.

The Addicks were thought to have tested Exeter’s resolve in the winter window to keep hold of Randall by making an initial offer that was knocked back by the League Two outfit. Charlton were reported to have come back in with an offer of around £500,000 for the midfielder, but again that was rejected with his club holding out for double that fee.

There was also interest in Randall from Celtic in January, but he has remained with Exeter. Recently, he has endured some injury issues that have kept him out since the end of March. However, if he recovers from that as expected then surely Charlton should reignite their interest in him this summer.

Another potential midfield signing that Charlton were rumoured to be interested in during the January window was Antony Evans. He could maybe someone they target again this summer.

The Paderborn midfielder was reportedly on the radar of the Addicks in January as they aimed to add to their midfield options, with the likes of Rotherham United, Wigan Athletic and Lincoln City also interested. However, in the end, he instead made the move to Crewe on loan until the end of the campaign.

In the summer, Evans is set to return to Germany and Charlton might be wanting to reignite their interest in him given his recent positive performances for Crewe. The 22-year-old will be aiming to get first-team football wherever he is next term, and The Valley might be a good place for that.

Another potential midfield signing that Charlton might want to look to make in the summer, following their interest in January, is Nnamdi Ofoborh.

Ofoborh had been a player that was reported to be on Charlton’s radar in the winter window with the Addicks amongst many clubs interested in bringing him on loan from AFC Bournemouth. The midfielder has since signed a pre-contract agreement with Rangers to move there in the summer. He then joined Wycombe Wanderers on loan until the end of the campaign.

If Rangers were willing to loan him out in the summer transfer window, rather than bring him straight into their squad, then Charlton should look to try and make that happen because he is a player that could offer some quality to their midfield area.

The final transfer rumour from January that could potentially be revisited this summer at Charlton is whether or not defender Deji Oshilaja should be allowed to leave the club.

It was reported ahead of the winter window that League One rivals Gillingham were linked with a potential move Oshilaja. However, in the end, the defender remained with the Addicks and has provided depth in their defence during the second half of the campaign.

However, the defender has only made 17 appearances in the third tier for them this season and it could therefore be the right time for him to move on the summer. He would likely be a player that would attract interest in the summer from other clubs if he were to be made available.
