Southampton are heading for mid-table in the Premier League after another largely respectable campaign under Ralph Hasenhuttl.

There was a point where it looked like the Saints could aim that little bit higher but they have failed to build on a strong start and can feel contempt with where they are right now.

The summer is now just around the corner and some big decisions will have to be made at St Mary’s.

Of course, we mean in terms of transfers in and out of the club.

On the topic of that transfer window, we’ve opted to look at NINE developments that could well play out on the South Coast…

Back in April, Southampton were linked with a move to sign Brentford full-back, Rico Henry.

Henry is still chasing promotion through the play-offs with the Bees, but could well be on the move to the Premier League if Brentford fail to manoeuvre their way through the next month.

In that eventuality, it could well be Saints that profit.

Danjuma is another Championship player chasing promotion to the Premier League, this time with AFC Bournemouth.

The winger has been in fine form this season for the Cherries, with 22 goal involvements to his name.

However, Football League World understand that Southampton are interested in a move for the winger if he fails to win promotion back to the Premier League.

Looking at another Southampton and Bournemouth saga that could play out involving Shane Long.

Long moved out on loan to Bournemouth back in the January transfer window, having found his game time limited with the Saints during the first-half of the season.

The 34-year-old has netted a couple of times since signing for the Cherries and could be a permanent mover out of Southampton when the summer comes around.

In terms of a striker that might well be on the move into Southampton this summer, we touch on Armstrong.

The Blackburn Rovers striker has scored 25 goals in the Championship this season and has a number of Premier League admirers.

That reportedly includes Southampton, who could make their move.

Any movement to bring a forward in at Southampton might be well hinge on what happens with Ings.

After another stellar season in the Premier League has seen him reach double figures for goals, Man City have been credited with an interest in Ings.

Whether that materialises or not, you will have to wait and see, but there will be interest there bubbling away.

Gunn hasn’t quite hit the heights expected of him since signing for Southampton, despite the goalkeeper arriving with a certain pedigree.

Right now, he’s out on loan with Stoke City in the Championship, but injuries have disrupted his flow.

Next season Southampton need to decide where is going to be best for Gunn to play his football.

Bertrand has been a regular for Southampton over the years but he’s out of contract in the summer and the club have a decision to make on the 31-year-old.

The fact that Southampton are looking at Henry, as we mentioned earlier, might suggest there could be a changing of the guard at left-back.

Walcott has been back on loan with Southampton from Everton, returning to where it all started for him.

He’s out of contract at Everton in the summer and it’ll be interesting to what developments occur surrounding the former England winger.

Could he return to Saints on a permanent basis?

It’s going to be interesting to see what materialises with the Japan international in the summer.

He’s been on loan with Southampton from Liverpool, after finding his opportunities limited at Anfield in 2020/21.

Whether he returns to Southampton or sticks with Liverpool remains to be seen, whilst the 26-year-old may also be on the move elsewhere.
