Millwall have had another solid season in the Championship, and they capped off their matches at The Den with a 4-1 trouncing of Bristol City.

In what could be a sign of things to come for the 2021/22 campaign, both loanee Scott Malone and youngster Billy Mitchell were on the scoresheet for the Lions as they swept aside Nigel Pearson's outfit.

Gary Rowett's side can finish as high as ninth in the Championship this season with a game remaining, and they seem to be comfortable in that area of the table that isn't quite close enough to the play-offs but they're far too good to be in a relegation battle.

If they do want to reach the top six though next season and perhaps get into the promised land of the Premier League, then squad strengthening will definitely need to be done and there's already rumours circling around some players heading to south London.

Let's look at NINE transfer developments we could see occur at the club this summer.

Of course this is something that Millwall fans won't want to happen, but due to Wallace's performances and productivity over the last two seasons, transfer bids are bound to come for the 27-year-old.

Wallace has scored 11 goals this campaign to add to his five assists (Sofascore), and he's even recently adapted to playing as a striker in Gary Rowett's winger-less 3-5-2 system.

Out of contract at the end of next season, Rowett had nothing to add when asked about Wallace's situation, and with such a short amount of time left on his deal, a sizeable bid for the winger could potentially tempt Millwall into cashing in.

Rowett's aforementioned favoured system sees three central midfielders play in one line-up, and that could be a position that is bolstered this summer.

A current Lions midfielder could be returning to his parent club and that could see a space open up for either Billy Mitchell to become a regular Millwall starter, or it could pave the way for Jayson Molumby to return to The Den.

Having spent last season with the club, Millwall tried to get the Ireland international from Brighton in the January transfer window on a club-record permanent deal, but they were knocked back and he headed for Preston North End on loan instead.

It hasn't quite worked out at Deepdale for Molumby and he will be looking for regular minutes next season, and he may just find them under Rowett if they decide to go back in for him.

The defence is another area that may be strengthened this summer at The Den, and one player they went in for in the January window was Porteous.

The Hibernian colossus was a wanted man and according to the Daily Record, Millwall had a bid of £1 million turned down for the 22-year-old, and no further approach was made as Hibs' stance was a firm one.

Things have changed however and recently their club chairman has said they may need to cash in on Porteous or Kevin Nisbet, but Millwall may have rivals for the centre-back.

That's because Queens Park Rangers are said to have registered an interest, but whoever does prize Porteous away from the Scottish capital would have to pay more than the million Millwall offered months ago.

On his day, Smith is a very effective target man and last season he scored 13 goals for the Lions - but goals have not come to him frequently this season.

The 31-year-old has scored just three times in the current campaign, and he's also been missing since early March with a broken foot which may have scuppered any potential contract renegotiations.

In reality though, Smith has been just a bench player this season, with only seven out of his 29 appearances coming from the start of a match and it could be time for the club to let his contract expire and move onto other striking options, which may be addressed later on...

One deal that might actually be done before the summer is the permanent move of Malone to Millwall.

Rowett brought the left-sided player in on loan from Derby County at the start of the season, and despite competition from Murray Wallace, Malone has made the left-wing-back slot his own.

He may be 30 years old now but Malone can still get up and down the pitch, as proven with his five goals this season and his performances have been deserving of a permanent deal - which Rowett is hoping is the case and a deal looks to be close according to his latest comments.

One potential midfield addition has already been spoken about in a return for Molumby, and a name that has been linked to the Lions once again this week is Cameron Brannagan.

The 24-year-old Oxford United player - once linked to Real Madrid and Barcelona when he plied his trade at Liverpool - was reported to be of interest to Millwall back in January and they apparently had a £500,000 bid rejected for his services.

That doesn't seem to be stopping the club's interest though, as Football Insider have claimed once again this week that Millwall, along with Preston North End, are looking at a potential move for Brannagan, who has played 30 times for the U's this season - and he could replace a player in midfield who could be returning to his parent club.

Woods has been an ever-present for the majority of the season at Millwall, but in two of the last five games he's sat on the bench as Rowett explores his options for next season.

The manager explained that there's no guarantee that Woods will be at the Lions next season as Stoke may look to give him a clean slate or sell him on to another club, and his wages may scupper a permanent move to South Bermondsey.

It would explain why the Brannagan links have emerged once again but Woods may not even be missed that much if the promising Billy Mitchell flourishes and becomes a regular first-team player next season.

As mentioned earlier, Matt Smith's expiring contract could mean Millwall look at outside striking options, and one name they have been linked with in recent weeks is Charlie Wyke.

Sky Sports have put the Lions' name forward as one of the outfits interested in the Sunderland striker, who has scored 25 goals in League One this season.

Millwall would face competition no doubt from multiple other clubs in the Championship, but that is to be expected when the 28-year-old's contract is expiring this summer, and if Sunderland don't make it through the play-offs then there's an expectation that Wyke will explore his options and make the step up - and Millwall could potentially be his next destination.

Another out of contract player who has been linked to the Lions recently is Paterson of Bristol City.

Football Insider believe a number of Championship clubs are exploring the possibility of taking the attacking midfielder from the Robins, and he could be an ideal fit for Rowett's 3-5-2 system as Paterson played in the middle of the park under Dean Holden earlier in the season and flourished.

If Jed Wallace remained at The Den as well then that would give the line-up two very creative outlets - but Millwall would likely face stiff competition for Paterson's services as the likes of his former club Nottingham Forest are also said to be interested.
