A busy summer awaits Charlton Athletic regardless of what division they are in for next season as Nigel Adkins looks to start shaping his squad how he wants it.

The former Hull City and Southampton manager has seen some good results since coming in as Addicks boss but a few frailties remain and that is in terms of them seeing out matches.

Indeed, a big game awaits the Addicks this evening as they face Lincoln City and try to keep the pressure up in the top six race and time will only tell as to how they do at The Valley.

Whilst we wait and see with that, though, we're taking a closer look at how the Addicks could see their summer pan out in terms of a few different developments.

Here are nine things that could well happen this summer in SE7...

Jayden Stockley is a player whose future remains uncertain at the moment and we'll have to see what the summer holds for him.

He'll naturally want to be somewhere where he is going to be playing first-team football regularly and if parent club Preston North End cannot offer him that then he'll surely be looking for a move elsewhere.

Charlton have obviously used him a lot since his arrival and he's scored a lot of goals with the aerial threat that he possesses so there must be at least some openness to getting a deal over the line for him.

Oshilaja could well be a player that moves on from the Addicks in the summer window with him struggling to get into the side this season at points.

When the likes of Ryan Inniss and Akin Famewo have been injured we saw Oshilaja being used but you'd have to say he is probably at the bottom of the pecking order of the centre-backs at the club as things stand under Nigel Adkins.

Inniss and club captain Jason Pearce are ahead of him and so is Famewo so there might be some willingness for an exit here.

A decision between Chelsea and Charlton will need to be made over the future of left-back turned right-winger Ian Maatsen this summer.

The Dutchman is still very young and raw but he has shown his quality at times this year and under Adkins has been givne the opportunity to play further forwards.

This development might intrigue Chelsea enough to give him another year at The Valley but then they may also want him to be playing in the Championship next season and time will tell if Charlton can offer that.

Another Premier League loanee is Liam Millar who is at Charlton from Liverpool and, again, it remains to be seen if he will be kept.

Certainly, it seems reasonable to suggest that Maatsen is perhaps one the Addicks would want to keep around over Millar such is the excitement over his move to right-wing and it remains to be seen just how Adkins feels about Millar.

The left-winger is a decent player but sometimes hasn't shown much consistency even though he has played a lot - Adkins will need to decide what he wants to do.

Another loan player from a soon-to-be Premier League club is Akin Famewo who is currently on the Charlton books after joining from Norwich City at the start of the season.

He's a good defender, clearly, and one that when fit and available really can offer something but we have seen a few fitness problems with him this season and Adkins will need to decide whether that's been a one-off or something more deep rooted.

Norwich may also want him in the Championship next season, at least, and so it remains to be seen if Charlton can offer that.

Smith arrived at the club on loan from Arsenal but hasn't really featured much for the Addicks and it seems quite likely he is going to be heading back to north London at the end of this season.

Neither Lee Bowyer or Nigel Adkins have opted to really get him into the side and it's clear there are other players that Adkins prefers to Smith.

He has talent but it's not being used at The Valley or, indeed, showcased by the player so it's hard to see him staying.

Vennings' future is surely uncertain with him coming towards the end of his contract at the club and not yet really forcing his way into the first-team fold.

Whilst Albie Morgan and Charlie Barker have shown it can be done in recent times, Vennings has only got a handful of appearances to show for his time at Charlton that have come out of an injury crisis.

Clearly, he's a player that has ability but he needs to find his level and this summer could well see him do that.

Oztumer has talent and guile but he couldn't stop Bristol Rovers getting relegated from League One this season and it is up for debate as to whether he remains at Charlton for next year.

Bowyer obviously sanctioned his loan exit and so Nigel Adkins may well want to take a proper look at him at least in pre-season.

However, whether or not he wants to keep him on remains to be seen and there is every chance Oztumer is going to look for a new club in the summer.

Dempsey falls into a similar category as Vennings in all fairness.

He's been on loan in non-league recently and that could be a level where he decides to move more permanently this summer if his future at Charlton doesn't see him playing more.

Indeed, he's at a point in his career now where he'll want a club he can really start playing regularly for and enjoying progressing with and it's up for debate as to whether that is the Addicks.
