Swindon Town have had their fair share of signings over the years that haven't hit the heights originally expected of them at the County Ground.

The Robins are currently playing their football in League One, and are looking to achieve survival as soon as possible.

Swindon had previously been on an alarming run of form that had seen them slide down the League One table this term. But a recent upturn in results has seen the Robins pull clear of the relegation zone, and they'll be keen to build on their last two wins heading into their final nine matches this term.

The Robins take on promotion-chasing Blackpool on Good Friday, in what is certain to be a tricky test for John Sheridan's side.

It'll be an interesting summer transfer window ahead for Swindon, as they look to make the necessary additions to their squad ahead of the 2021/22 season.

We take a look at NINE Swindon Town signings from over the years that flopped, but do you agree with them?

Find out which player is first up on the list, on the next page....

The list starts with Alistair Sperring, and some Swindon Town supporters could be forgiven for not even remembering who he is, to be honest.

Sperring made just one appearance in total for Swindon Town whilst on loan from Southampton in the 1984/1985 season.

But he endured a debut to forget, as he conceded five goals, in what proved to be his only outing for Swindon Town, which is somewhat understandable after such a poor showing between the posts on his debut.

He returned to Southampton in the 1984/1985 season, and it's safe to say that his spell with the Robins won't be remembered fondly by both the club's supporters or Sperring.

Mark McCammon is next up, with the former Swindon Town forward having a forgetful spell with the Robins.

He signed for the club on loan from Charlton Athletic in 2000, but made just four appearances, and failed to score a single goal in his time with the club.

It didn't come as a surprise to see Swindon Town not sign him permanently after that temporary spell, and he later went on to sign for Brentford later that year.

McCammon called time on his playing career in 2012 after a spell with Lincoln City, whilst also playing for the likes of Braintree Town and Sheffield FC later down the line.

Adrian Bakkali is another forgetful name that failed to make any sort of impact whilst with Swindon Town.

The former Robins midfielder made his debut for the club against Stoke City, but that only lasted 45 minutes, as he was substituted at half-time.

That proved to be the final appearance for Bakkali in a Swindon Town shirt, and it's safe to say that his spell with the club won't be looked back on with much fondness.

He had previously been on the books with Watford, before making the switch to Swindon Town in 2001, although he didn't make the impact that he would have originally hoped to.

Neil Webb is next up, and plenty of Swindon Town supporters will be slightly frustrated with his lack of impact in his time with the club.

Webb had previously been on the books with the likes of West Ham, Manchester United, before signing for Nottingham Forest in 1992.

He spent two years with the Reds, before being sent out on loan to Swindon Town in 1994. He only made a handful of appearances for the Robins though, and returned to the City Ground soon after a quiet spell with Swindon.

Webb went on to finish his playing career whilst with Aldershot Town in 1997.

Jake Findlay is next up, with the former Swindon Town goalkeeper only making a small number of appearances for the Robins.

He had previously been on the books with the likes of Aston Villa and Luton Town, and made over 150 appearances in his time with the Hatters, having originally signed for the club whilst they were under the management of David Pleat.

The Scotsman signed for Swindon Town in 1985, but was only with the club for a few months, before departing in the same year.

Findlay went on to feature for Peterborough United, Portsmouth and Coventry City later down the line, before calling time on his playing career.

It's safe to say that Kim Heiselberg has had an interesting career path over the years. The former Danish defender started his career with Esbjerg fB.

His good run of performances with the Danish side saw him earn a move to Southampton in 1997. But his career didn't kick on the way that the defender would have originally hoped for.

Heiselberg went on to sign for Swindon Town in 2000, but made just one appearance in total for the club, before departing in that same year.

Heiselberg is now a pig farmer since calling time on his career, in what was a frustrating last few seasons in football for the Dane.

Another player that certainly didn't live up to the hype whilst with Swindon Town was Vincent Péricard.

The forward had previously been on the books with the likes of Juventus, Portsmouth and Stoke City, but signed for Swindon Town in 2010.

Despite being a regular in the Robins' team during the 2010/11 season, Péricard only scored five goals in 39 appearances for the club.

He was released from his contract at the end of that season, and went on to drop into non-league with Havant & Waterlooville later down the line.

David Peach is next, with the full-back signing for Swindon Town back in March 1980, for a fee of £150,000, in what was a club-record deal at the time.

Peach has previously been on the books with Gillingham and Southampton, but struggled for a consistent run of positive performances with the Robins.

His debut for Swindon Town came against Millwall, in a heavy 6-2 defeat for the Robins, and Peach's struggled to win the fans over from then on.

Peach was released to Leyton Orient in March 1982 due to Swindon's financial difficulties, as the Robins looked to reduce the wage bill at the County Ground.

Mattia Lanzano is the last name on the list, with the former Swindon Town goalkeeper signing for the club in 2011 whilst they were managed by Paulo Di Canio.

The shot-stopper made just seven appearances in total for the club though, before being moved on at the end of the season, which certainly makes him as one of the club's worst ever signings from over the years.

Lanzano went on to sign for Italian side Gavorrano upon leaving Swindon Town, although he was most recently with Piacenza, which is the club he arrived at Swindon Town from.

But that spell came to an end in 2018, after just one year with the Italian side.
