Queens Park Rangers have had a promising 2021 and will be hoping that they can end this season on a high note as they play their last set of fixtures after the international break.

The Hoops have certainly picked up since the turn of the year and will be looking to use this summer's transfer window just as well as they used last January's, with a number of good signings being made.

Certainly, fans will be hoping that level of recruitment can continue because, like any fanbase, they've also seen what can happen when signings go wrong.

Here, then, we're taking a look at nine of the signings at the club in the recent past that simply did not work out as anyone would have liked or expected.

Flop signings, see what you make of our list...

Samba Diakite kicks off our list.

Things started off relatively okay for him but it gradually became clear he was not going to be a part of QPR's long-term plans which, considering he signed for around £3m, was a bit of an issue.

Indeed, in the four years he was at the club on a permanent basis he made just 14 league appearances, with loan spells away not yielding much success either.

He was imposing at times in the middle of the pitch but also rash at other points and a lack of consistency never really helped his cause.

He is now playing for Al Tadhamon in Kuwait.

Federico Macheda will always be remembered fondly by Manchester United fans for a late goal against Aston Villa that helped them pip Liverpool to the league title in 2008/09.

Indeed, many would have naturally expected the striker to go on and have a fine career at the top level but after that moment we didn't see too much else, at least in the Premier League.

Even so, there was excitement he could kick on and improve at Queens Park Rangers when he arrived on loan - though that never happened.

He never made a league start for the Hoops and it was quickly apparent that he wouldn't be hanging around long in west London.

Esteban Granero was a signing Hoops fans were rightly thrilled about seeing happen but it quickly became clear it wasn't going to work for him on these shores.
Granero had been touted as a future Spanish star during his time at Real Madrid so many sat up and took notice when QPR had managed to bring him in.
However, he never really adapted to the English game and could not meet the expectations set for him, moving back to his homeland not long after he had left it.
He's still played at a good level in Spain, however, for the likes of Real Sociedad and Espanyol with him now on the books of Marbella.
Armel Tchakounte might not be a name QPR fans instantly recall but he's certainly one that, unfortunately, makes this list. He initially played his football in Cameroon and it was said that he had earned caps for his nation, though that never really translated itself on the pitch for the Hoops. He arrived as a punt in all honesty, coming in from non-league Carshalton and it seemed quite quickly he wasn't up to the level. He made more appearances for the reserves than the first-team and an injury saw him leave months after arriving. A very odd scenario all around. Alessandro Pellicori was a striker but never scored a league goal, played just eight times in the league and only actually scored once overall in a 5-0 win over Exeter City in the League Cup. He never looked good enough for the level the Hoops were at or trying to get to and was sent back to Italy as fast as he arrived. Worst still, he was convicted of match-fixing in 2012 and banned from football for three years thereafter. Certainly, a pretty forgettable signing from the Hoops.

Stefan Moore arrived from Aston Villa in 2005 but it became clear that playing for the Villa Park club, unfortunately, didn't guarantee performances for the Hoops.

Sometimes these moves do not work and this was a prime example here.

Moore often looked off of the pace for the Hoops and ultimately fans got on his back when they had expected far more when he arrived.

He featured 39 times for Queens Park Rangers and hit the net just the three times during that spell.

Moore spent much of his career later on in non-league football where he enjoyed far more success in front of goal to be fair to him.

Tal Ben Haim had a fine spell at Bolton Wanderers in the Premier League and that sparked a move to Chelsea - though he never really forced his way into their team as they made the Champions League final in 2008.

Even so, he had some pedigree at the top level and so the hope would have been he would show that at QPR.

Ultimately, though, he fell well short. He featured just three times for the Hoops during his time there having joined in January 2013 and then been released at the end of the campaign.

Taye Taiwo was another defender that arrived with decent pedigree but simply did not cut the mustard when it came to it for Queens Park Rangers.

He was a powerful, quick full-back with many tipping him to be one of the better defenders in Europe in the years to come following his early performances but at QPR we didn't see enough of that - his best years were very much his early ones at Marseille.

Bursaspor, Helsinki and Lausanne all took him on at different times after his move away from W12.

Jason Puncheon was a decent player and had a good career at the top level but his move to QPR will be one he'll happily forget about.

He arrived on loan at the start of the 11/12 season but just could not get into the side and have an impact.

He headed back to Southampton in the January of that season having made just two appearances in the league for the club.

A good spell at Crystal Palace was still to come, though, whilst he is now playing football in Cyprus for Pafos.
