Over the years, Nottingham Forest have been no strangers to bringing in players from all over the globe.

In the summer, 14 new players arrived as the club looked to cure their play-off hangover from last season, with players arriving from Cyprus, Portugal and Greece.

It took Chris Hughton a little while to get to grips with such a playing squad left at his disposal, but Forest have made improvements since his arrival in October.

Naturally, when you make so many signings each and every summer, some players are bound to be overlooked at some point. They will underperform and fail to make an impact during their often brief spells at the club.

Of course, some players like Brice Samba and Yuri Ribeiro have both made positive impacts over the last couple of years, but there are some who have just completely flattered to deceive.

Here, we take a look at nine Nottingham Forest signings who went on to become flops...

Gomis was a January 2014 arrival on loan from Nice, but his spell at the City Ground was one to forget.

The defender made his one and one appearance in a Forest shirt in a 1-0 defeat to Barnsley at Oakwell in March, on an afternoon where he also picked up a yellow card.

That was to be his only appearance in a Forest shirt, after he was overlooked by Gary Brazil for the rest of the season.

Gomis was last seen playing in the sixth tier of French football, and out of all the centre-halves who have once played Forest, he is probably one of the least memorable to pull on a shirt.

Rafik Djebbour is another player who flattered to deceive during his time at Forest.

The Algerian striker arrived from Olympiacos in January 2014, having scored 45 goals in 81 appearances for the Greek club.

Djebbour did actually score on his Forest debut in a home win over Yeovil Town, but that was to be as good as it got for the forward.

He made only eight appearances for the Reds, and that goal against Yeovil ended up being his only one in a Forest shirt.

He left the club at the end of the season and moved onto pastures new.

Dumitru joined Forest on loan from Napoli in August 2016, putting pen to paper on a season-long loan move to the City Ground.

The attacker failed to show his true quality at Forest, though, failing to make the most of his time in England.

Dumitru ended up making 10 appearances in the Championship for Forest, scoring one goal and failing to register an assist.

He left the club at the end of the season, and now plays in South Korea for Suwon SamSung Bluewings.

He wasn't the most talented player ever to wear the Garibaldi.

Mir was a signing who brought excitement when he arrived on loan from Wolves in the summer of 2019.

The Spaniard was seen as genuine competition for Lewis Grabban looking to make an impact in England after being overlooked at Wolves.

But Mir was unable to make any sort of impact at Forest, failing to score in 13 appearances for the club and having to make do with a few substitute cameos.

In fairness to him, he's since scored 20 goals in 47 games for Huesca back in Spain since leaving Wolves, but during his spell on Trentside, he was a flop.

Sticking on the topic of strikers and Ishmael Miller is next on our list.

Miller joined Forest from West Brom for around £1.2million in the summer of 2011, but he failed to find his goalscoring boots at the City Ground.

Miller scored three goals in 21 Championship appearances in his first season at the City Ground, and left in 2016 having been on loan with the likes of Middlesbrough, Yeovil and Blackpool.

He joined Huddersfield on a permanent deal in 2016 having scored four goals in 30 appearances for the Reds in all competitions.

This man certainly had the confidence, but failed to show his quality during his time at Forest.

Abdoun joined Forest in the summer of 2013 from Olympiacos, and he scored a cute Panenka penalty in a big 5-0 FA Cup win over West Ham at the City Ground.

But Abdoun was a bit of a controversial character during his time with the Reds, and left at the end of the 2014/15 season after spending it on loan with Lokeren.

The Algerian international scored two goals and chipped in with four assists in 27 games for the Reds across all competitions.

Silenzi joined Forest from Torino in the summer of 1995 for a fee of around £1.8million, becoming the first Italian player ever to feature in the Premier League.

The striker had a good goalscoring record for Torino and scored 17 goals in 31 Serie A appearances back in 1993/94.

But Silenzi, despite big expectations, failed to live up to them, failing to score in 16 appearances for the club across two seasons.

He later joined Venezia on loan in the 1996/97 season before having his contract cancelled by the Reds. His time in England was one to forget.

Mannini joined Forest and reunited with former teammate at Sampdoria, David Platt.

The defender had made well over 400 appearances for Sampdoria and was a fans' favourite at the Italian club, but failed to earn that tag at Forest.

He didn't last very long on Trentside, making only 10 appearances before leaving on a free transfer in January 2000.

He then had spells with Imolese as well as with other amateur Italian sides, before retiring soon after those stints.

Veldwijk signed for Forest from Excelsior in 2014, but he failed to replicate the fine goalscoring form he displayed in the Netherlands in the East Midlands.

The striker scored only one goal in a total of 17 appearances across a two-year spell at the City Ground.

The Dutchman spent time at PEC Zwolle on loan during his time at Forest, before leaving on a permanent deal for Kortrijk in 2016.

He's now playing in South Korea for Suwon FC.

Despite scoring 30 goals for Excelsior the previous season, he failed to live up to expectations.
