Norwich City have made great strides this season in terms of returning to the Premier League for next year and they'll be eager to finish the job between now and the end of this campaign.

Some great work from the recruitment team has once again paid off whilst some faces that were signed a few seasons ago have once again come to the fore.

Indeed, the Canaries are in rude health both on and off the pitch these days but, of course, as with every club, they have had a few signing shockers in the past too.

Whether circumstances have prevented success or just the player has ended up not being good enough, Norwich have their fair share of signings that did not work for them for one reason or another.

Let's take a look at nine of those names now...

Norwich signed Yanic Wildschut on Deadline Day in January 2017 for a decent fee but it never really worked out for him after he arrived at Carrow Road.

He was at the club between 2017 and 2019 before moving on, making just 24 league appearances during that time as Daniel Farke put his stamp on the club.

For £7m you would have expected more but he scored just three goals and is at Maccabi Haifa these days after leaving Norfolk.

Michael Theoklitos played just once for Norwich City during his time in East Anglia as a goalkeeper.

The Australian arrived in 2009 from Melbourne Victory, in time for the 09/10 season where Norwich were kicking off in League One.

His debut was absolutely one to forget, too, with it the 7-1 defeat to Colchester United and he admitted it was his worst performance of his career.

Paul Lambert soon arrived and his contract was terminated months later in March.

Luciano Becchio was rightly loved by Leeds United fans for his goals and performances and that got Norwich City interested in him to the point that they signed him in January 2013.

Put simply, though, it just wasn't the right fit and the Argentine would ultimately fail to replicate the fine displays he put in at Elland Road now he was at Carrow Road.

A loan to Rotherham United wasn't too far around the corner, before he was released by the club in 14/15.

Ignasi Miquel arrived as a young defender from Arsenal and the hope was that Norwich had picked up a good player with lots of room to grow and that would seize his chance to play regularly after seeing game-time naturally limited at the Gunners.

However, he made just two appearances for the club - both cup defeats - and would terminate his contract just a year into his original three-year deal.

Johan Elmander arrived back in the Premier League for the 13/14 season but could not help Norwich achieve survival in the top flight.

At Bolton Wanderers a few years prior he looked a pretty handy player at the top level and scored some really nice goals but at Norwich it did not work out that way.

He scored just one goal during his Carrow Road loan and then was soon moved away from Norfolk again, a real pity it didn't work.

Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe arrived in 2014 at Norwich but never really managed to get into the team and stay there during a two-year period at the club.

He made 15 appearances in the league during his time in Norfolk with injuries really hampering him too.

Indeed, it seemed a move that was never going to pay off in the long-run, sometimes these things happen, and he would leave the club to join Legia Warsaw.

He's now at Gent having joined in 2018.

Naismith's signing made sense for Norwich and you could see why they went for him.

Looking for more Premier League experience as they were midway through their return to the top flight in 15/16, the Scottish international arrived from Everton in January '16 with him well-known for busy performances up top and goals here and there.

A debut strike v Liverpool increased hopes further but that would prove his only strike in 13 appearances for the club that season.

His second year saw five goals in 29 games whilst 17/18 was the beginning of the end for him, as he left in January 2018 for a loan at Hearts - something he'd make permanent in time.

Kyle Lafferty's time at Norwich City, unfortunately, did not go to plan.

He arrived on a three-year contract back in June 2014 but never really managed to hit the heights he would have liked in his spell at Carrow Road.

The 14/15 season saw him hit the net just the once and with Norwich then in the Premier League the season after, he found game-time very hard to come by.

Eventually, he'd leave in 2017 and had a more successful spell at Hearts thereafter. This was just a move that didn't work out.

Ricky van Wolfswinkel was literally a big-name signing from Sporting Lisbon but, unfortunately for him, he is more remembered for his surname than lighting up the Carrow Road pitch with his goals and performances.

He arrived for good money from Sporting Lisbon in the 13/14 season and scored on his opening game with the club in the Premier League, increasing hopes he'd shine for them.

That, though, was his only goal that season and he'd eventually start getting phased out. St Etienne loaned him a year later before Real Betis took him on after that, with Vitesse then signing him permanently in 16/17 - where, to be fair, he rediscovered his shooting boots.

He's been at Basel since 2017.
