After a worrying blip over the Christmas and January period, West Brom looked back to their best as they convincingly beat Bristol City 3-0 on Saturday to send a message to the chasing pack.

On paper, a trip to the play-off chasing Robins looked a tough test and many would have seen a point an acceptable result at Ashton Gate.

However, Slaven Bilic's men took all three with a dominant display, with Jake Livermore inspiring the team from the middle of the park.

As our graphic shows, the former England international was at his best on Saturday. He was aggressive, on the front foot and his drive and determination was the reason the Baggies recorded a relatively easy victory.

The standout aspect of his performance was the 15 duels won, highlighting just how strong he was in the middle and that gave Albion the platform to take control.

As well as that, nine interceptions was a huge return from the midfielder and that ability at regaining possession meant the visitors transitioned quickly and Bristol City were unable to deal with them throughout, with the opener coming from Livermore's work.

Whilst the good defensive side of the 30-year-old's game may not come as a surprise, Livermore was actually crucial going forward as well against the Robins.

He registered one shot assist, had a 75% dribble success and had four attempts, with two of those on target.

Quite simply, it was the perfect all-round performance from the midfielder and it proves just how important he is to Slaven Bilic and the team.

The likes of Matheus Pereira and Grady Diangana may have caught the eye of the neutrals this season, and it's easy to see why with their technical ability and quality on the ball, but everyone connected to West Brom knows Livermore is the man that has held it all together.

He has flourished since Bilic took over and a few tactical tweaks from the Croatian have enabled the ex-Spurs man to take his game to another level.

QUIZ: Do you know what these 13 ex-West Brom players are doing now?

Saturday was the clearest example of that, as Livermore put in a massive performance that ensured Albion took a big step closer to promotion and the captain will want to maintain those high standards in the run-in as he aims to be lifting the Championship trophy come May.
