Over the years, there have been plenty of players who have been signed by Celtic.

As you would expect to be the case with any club, some of those players have certainly had a bigger impact at Parkhead than others.

Celtic are currently sat second in the Scottish Premiership, and will be looking to clinch the league title back next season, with Rangers already winning this year's title.

Here, we’ve decided to take a look at nine of those players who quite simply flopped in emphatic style during their time with The Bhoys, for one reason or another, and there are likely to be some individual who those of a Celtic persuasion may not – or would prefer not to – remember.

But how many of these do you actually recognise?

We start this list with Henri Camara, who Celtic paid £1.5million to sign on a season-long loan from Wolves in the summer of 2004, following the departure of Henrick Larsson.

Camara however, failed to match the exploits of his predecessor, and after scoring just eight goals in 26 appearances in all competitions, the striker's loan was brought to a premature end in January 2005.

Celtic paid what was then a club record fee to sign Slater from West Ham in the summer of 1992, but it was not money well spent.

The winger scored just three goals in 43 appearances in all competitions for Celtic, before making a swift return down south to join Ipswich for around half what Celtic had paid for him, after little more than a year at Parkhead.

Borrigter joined Celtic in the summer of 2013 after catching the eye with Dutch giants Ajax, but couldn't replicate that form during his time in Scotland.

In almost three years at Parkhead, the winger featured just 26 occasions, scoring one solitary goal, and was released prematurely from his contract in April 2016, having not played a single game that season.

Henchoz joined Celtic from Liverpool on a six-month in January 2005, having won several trophies during his time at Anfield.

Despite that, the defender failed to force his into the side at Celtic, and left Parkhead to join Wigan at the end of his contract with the Hoops, having made just a handful of appearances for the club.

Scheidt made the move to Celtic from Gremio in 1999, with the arrival of the Brazilian international greeted with a great deal of excitement, that would prove to be misplaced.

The defender made just three appearances in his first season with the club, before being loaned back to Brazil for the next two years with Corinthians, after which he was released from his Celtic contract amid work permit issues.

Having played for Fiorentina and then Leipzig prior to his move to Celtic in the 2018 winter transfer, Compper moved to Parkhead with a more than respectable CV, not that he lived up to it.

Compper spent a year-and-a-half on the books at Celtic, during which time he made just one appearance, in a Scottish Cup win over Morton, before joining Duisburg in the German third-tier in the summer of 2019.

Bangura joined Celtic with a reasonably impressive from his time playing in Sweden, but he would fail to match that during his time at Parkhead.

The striker made just 16 appearances in a two-and-a-half-year spell with the Hoops, during which he spent a significant amount of time back on loan in Sweden, somewhat controversially playing against Celtic in the Champions League in that period, before having his contract terminated in January 2014.

Joining Celtic from Burnley in the summer of 2005, Camara's debut saw him suffer a disastrous evening as Slovakian side Artmedia Bratislava dished out a 5-0 thrashing in the Champions League, with the defender being given the run-around in that game.

Camara would struggle to improve for Celtic after that, and spent just a single season at Parkhead before returning to England with Derby, having made 24 appearances for the Hoops.

Signed on loan from Shanghai Shenhua in the summer of 2005, Du Wei debut for Celtic came against Clyde in the third round of the Scottish Cup the following January.

That debut would prove to be a disaster, with Clyde shocking Celtic with a 2-1 win, and Wei substituted at half time having been at fault for both Clyde goals in a performance were he barely won a challenge, either with the ball on the ground or in the air, with the defender unsurprisingly sent back to China shortly after.
