Over the years, there have been plenty of players who have been signed by Blackburn Rovers.

As you would expect to be the case with any club, some of those players have certainly had a bigger impact at Ewood Park than others.

But while certain individuals ranging from Alan Shearer to Brad Friedel, and many more, will always be remembered as inspired and lucrative signings that undoubtedly paid off for the Ewood Park club, there are plenty of recruits for whom things most certainly did not work out during their time with the side from Lancashire.

Here, we've decided to take a look at nine of those players who quite simply flopped in emphatic style during their time with Blackburn, for one reason or another, and there are likely to be some individual who those of Rovers persuasion may not - or would prefer not to - remember.

But how many of these do you actually recognise.

We start this list with a player who never actually played a competitive match for Blackburn Rovers, in the form of Sacha Petshi.

After featuring in a trial match for the club in July 2015, the midfielder signed a one-year deal with the Ewood Park, following his departure from French third-tier side CA Bastia.

Ultimately though, Petshi would fail to get on the pitch once during a league or cup game for Blackburn during the 2015/16 campaign, and not surprisingly left Ewood Park at the end of that season, later going on to feature in the French lower leagues, while also spending time playing in Serbia and Malaysia.

While he may have only joined Rovers on loan, there can be no argument against the fact that Modeste flattered to deceive considerably during his time at Ewood Park.

Having made the temporary move to Rovers during the latter part of the 2011/12 season, Modeste made just nine league appearances for the club, failing to score and picking up a red card in a 3-0 defeat to West Brom as Blackburn suffered relegation to the Premier League.

Predictably, the striker's loan was not made permanent, with insult then being added to injury as Modeste went on to enjoy some rather prolific campaigns in front of goal at top-flight level in Germany, France and China.

Despite being linked with the likes of Bordeaux and Napoli, Goulon joined Blackburn as a free agent in the summer of 2010, where he failed to do much to justify that speculation.

The midfielder was able to amass just four league appearances during a two-year spell at Ewood Park - which included a spell on loan at Doncaster - before being released by the club following Rovers' relegation from the Premier League in 2012.

Following that, Goulon became something of a European journeyman, playing in Poland, Cyprus and Romania, before heading further afield to join his current club, Pahang FC in Malaysia in 2019, scoring 11 goals in 39 appearances in all competitions for the club to date.

Joining Blackburn on a two-year deal from Doncaster Rovers in the summer of 2014, Brown's time at Ewood Park could almost be described as a source of dark and ironic humour for those of a Blackburn persuasion.

Throughout the course of his spell at Ewood Park, Brown made 41 appearances in all competitions for the club, during which time he failed to score a single goal for the club.

Given the fact that Brown never really managed to settle during his time in Blue and White halves, that is no major surprise, with the striker missing a number of chances and struggling to establish an element of control upfront, it was understandable that Brown left Ewood come the end of his contract.

Koita joined Blackburn o a two-year in the summer of 2015 from French side Caen, having scored nine goals in 63 appearances in all competitions for the club.

That admittedly, is not the most prolific of records, and Koita's return would not improve during his time at Ewood Park, with the striker failing to find the net in 15 appearances in league and cup during his time in Lancashire.

Perhaps with that in mind, Rovers allowed Koita to leave the club after just a single season at Ewood Park, joining Turkish side Kasimpasa for a €320,000 fee, a decent amount for a Championship club to receive for a striker with Koita's scoring record.

One of a contingent of Portuguese players to join Blackburn in the summer of 2012 following their relegation from the Premier League, Paulo Jorge was one of several of those who struggled to make the grade at Ewood Park.

The midfielder made his league debut for Blackburn as a late substitute in August 2012, and despite the fact that he would not leave the club until he was released following the end of his contract at the conclusion of the 2014/15.

Perhaps tellingly, Jorge's subsequent clubs have all seen him playing further down the football tiers in a variety of different countries such as Germany, Romania and back in his native Portugal.

Another of those Portuguese players who made the move to Ewood Park during that bizarre and unpredictable summer of 2012, only to ultimately fail to make an impact for Blackburn, was Diogo Rosado.

Like Jorge, Rosado struggled to break into the first-team for Rovers, making just two league appearances for the club, before being loaned out to Benfica's B team in January 2013, although Blackburn did at least manage to secure the mutual termination of his contract at the end of his first season with the club.

Since then, Rosado has embarked on a journeyman's career, playing in Portugal, France, Cyprus, Angola, and now, the Romanian second-tier, having failed to ever really make an impact for any one club.

Blackburn reportedly paid Newcastle somewhere in the region of £3million for the services of Best in the summer of 2012, although on this occasion, it would not turn out to be money well spent.

While the early part of his Rovers career was hindered by injury, Best failed to make much of an impact even when he was fit, scoring just two goals in 16 appearances in all competitions for the club, while off the pitch, the striker was not a player who really managed to endear himself to the club's fans.

Eventually being released in 2015 after loans with the likes of Sheffield Wednesday, Derby and Brighton, Best went on to play for Rotherham, Ipswich and Charlton, struggling to make an impact there either, and he has been without a club since injury ended his time with the Addicks in 2018.

Another striker who cost Blackburn a fair amount of money, but ultimately failed to justify that investment on the pitch at Ewood Park, is Kevin Davies.

Rovers were said to have paid around £7million to Southampton to make Davies their then record signing in the summer of 1998, with the striker signing a seven-year contract at Ewood Park.

However, after just one year at Blackburn, during which time he scored just a single goal in 24 league appearances as Rovers were relegated from the Premier League, Davies returned to Southampton, ensuring he would never receive a warm reception on his return to Ewood Park, with any of the clubs he played for.
