Aston Villa have had their fair share of players over the years that simply haven't hit the heights that were originally set for them at Villa Park.

The club have spent a considerable amount of money on some players, that simply haven't been anywhere near good enough to justify their transfer fees.

Villa are currently managed by Dean Smith, and will be hoping they can finish this year's campaign strongly in the Premier League.

They're sat ninth in the top-flight standings, and are just seven points adrift of fifth-placed Chelsea heading into their final nine matches of this year's league campaign.

Smith will be hoping that he can get players through the door at Villa Park ahead of the 2021/22 season, and he'll be eager to see them not follow in the footsteps of a few players that have played for the club in recent years.

We take a look at NINE Aston Villa signings that flopped, but do you agree with them?

Find out which player is first on the list, on the next page....

Boško Balaban is first up, with the former Aston Villa man signing for the club back in 2001 from Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb.

He made just seven appearances in total in his two-and-a-half year spell with the club, before departing 2003, as he moved to Belgium with Club Brugge.

Saša Ćurčić is next on the list, with the former Aston Villa midfielder arriving at Villa Park in 1996.

He spent two years with the club in what was an unsuccessful spell, before going on to sign for Crystal Palace in 1998, before calling time on his career in 200 after playing for Scottish side Motherwell.

Gilles De Bilde's spell with Aston Villa was certainly a forgetful one, when he signed on loan with the club back in 2000 from Belgian side Anderlecht.

He only made a handful of appearances for the club though, and unsurprisingly, then loan wasn't renewed.

Djemba-Djemba had previously been on the books with French side Nantes, as well as Manchester United before signing for Aston Villa in 2005.

But he only made 11 appearances for the club in total, before departing two years later, as he went on to sign for Qatar SC, in what was a poor spell at Villa Park.

David Unsworth's spell with Aston Villa only lasted a short time, with the defender's family not settling in the area after he signed from Everton.

He returned to Everton that same year, and went on to become a regular in their starting XI at Goodison Park.

Habib Beye's spell with Aston Villa was nothing short of dreadful, and he's a player that won't be remembered well for his services at the club.

The defender made just nine appearances across a three-year spell at Villa Park, before leaving the club in 2012.

N'Zogbia might have been a regular at times for Aston Villa over the years, but he certainly didn't make the impact that he would have originally hoped for at Villa Park.

He only scored four goals in his five seasons with the club, and it came as a surprise to see not see him depart sooner than he did in 2016.

McCormack certainly didn't endure the best of spells with Aston Villa, after signing for the club in 2016.

He spent three years in total at Villa Park, and was on hefty wages, before eventually departing in 2019.

Aston Villa supporters could be forgiven for not even remembering this one. Stas signed for the club in 1990, but picked up an injury in training early into his spell with the club.

He's got to be considered as one of the most forgetful faces on the list.
