Sheffield Wednesday are set to offer midfielder Kieran Lee a short-term contract, to allow him to prove his fitness ahead of next season.

Lee has been an important player for Sheffield Wednesday since he arrived at Hillsborough in 2012, but he has been desperately unlucky with injury problems.

The 30-year-old made just two appearances for the Owls towards the end of last season, after suffering a serious injury against Norwich in December 2017.

Sheffield Wednesday manager Steve Bruce will be looking to put his own stamp on the squad this summer, after taking charge at Hillsborough in February and has already released several senior players.

The Owls boss has previously stated that Lee is a part of is plans for next season though and the journalist Alan Nixon recently revealed that the club are planning to offer the midfielder a short-term deal to allow him to prove his fitness.

So, should Sheffield Wednesday ensure Lee stays at Hillsborough next season?

Here, we take a look at some of his stats for the Owls from the 2017-18 season in the Championship:

Lee scored three goals and contributed one assist in 15 Championship appearances for Sheffield Wednesday during in the 2017-18 season, before his injury nightmare.

The midfielder is not afraid to get stuck in and averaged 1.8 tackles per game. This is not bad for a midfielder, although I'm sure Lee would be hoping to improve on that if he is given another chance for the Owls next season.

He was also a creative player and has the ability to pick out a killer pass. He averaged 1.3 key passes per game and also averaged 30.3 passes per match, with a very impressive pass success rate of 86.6%.

His stats certainly suggest that he deserves a chance to prove himself to Bruce and he could be an important player for the Owls next season, if he can get back to full fitness.

Lee must now focus on working hard ahead of pre-season, where it looks like he will get his chance to prove himself to his manager.
