Sheffield Wednesday made it back-to-back wins for the first time this season having seen off Ipswich Town on Saturday afternoon.

The Owls secured the three points after an impressive 2-0 win over Paul Hurst’s men, just four days after their first win of the season.

Lucas Joao missed the win over Millwall and every game since the opening round of fixtures due to a groin issue, but he was back fit again for the visit of Ipswich.

And the 24-year-old picked the perfect time to grab his first two goals of the season in what was a promising individual performance.

Joao’s display drew plaudits from Jos Luhukay after a positive week on the pitch.

Off the pitch too, the Portuguese striker put pen-to-paper on a new and improved deal, keeping him at Hillsborough until the summer of 2021.

And that must have galvanised the forward who put on a virtuoso display scoring twice from his four shots against the Tractor Boys.

Joao won two areal duels and completed three successful dribbles during his 79 minutes on the pitch before being substituted to a standing ovation from home fans.

One key pass was completed during his afternoon while having a pass success rate of 84 per cent in what was an afternoon to remember for the Sheffield Wednesday man.

If he can keep up his form for the foreseeable future, he will be like a new signing for the Owls.
