Derby County have gradually improved under the leadership of Phillip Cocu this term, with the Rams picking up two wins in quick succession thus making up ground on the top six in the Championship of late.

One man amongst the Pride Park ranks who has improved in terms of performance and consistency in recent weeks is Andre Wisdom, with the former Liverpool defender beginning to establish himself as a key cog in the Derby County backline.

A versatile defender, Wisdom has been utilised at both right-back and in central defence by Cocu, with his skillset and compatibility with his teammates making for a smooth transition between the positions.

After putting in a solid display at the heart of defence for the Rams last week in the 3-0 home win over Blackburn Rovers, Wisdom could now be well on his way to nailing down a starting spot in that role at the Midlands club.

Here, we take an in-depth look at the numbers behind Wisdom's performances this season in our latest FLW Spotlight piece....

When breaking down the numbers of Wisdom's performances this term, it is clear to see that the 26-year-old is best suited for the role of a 'sweeper', with the towering defender having only averaged 1.1 tackles and 1.1 interceptions so far this campaign, with both averages paling in comparison to the three clearances Wisdom completes per game.

In addition to this, the defender also only averages just one aerial duel won per game, thus suggesting that he tends to prefer to hold his position rather than breaking the defensive line to attack any incoming lofted passes.

Wisdom's passing accuracy is also an aspect of his game that is sure to please Cocu, with the full back turned centre back possessing a pass success rate of 82%.

This underlines his confidence when in possession of the ball, which in turn allows the Rams to build out attacks from the back through the use of short and long passes.
