82.5% pass success rate, 3 goals: The Reading star key to the Royals’ survival chances

It seems utterly crazy, but last year’s play-off finalists Reading are in this season’s survival battle in the Championship at the moment.

Indeed, perhaps part of the reason they are where they are now is because no-one is almost believing it’s happening, but if Jaap Stam and his men don’t grasp reality soon it’s bound to give them a rude-awakening.

Six points separate them from the drop at the moment and with just one win coming from their last ten in the league, they’re hardly on an upward trajectory.

They need their key men to step up, then, and the latest subject of our FLW Spotlight feature certainly falls into that bracket – Liam Moore:

Few Royals players have shone this season it is fair to say, but Moore continues to catch the eye and has been linked away with moves to the Premier League in recent times.

Certainly, we could see such an eventuality in the summer come to pass but in the meantime, Moore is going to have to keep the likes of his pass success rate and clearances per game up in order to keep his side afloat.

Perhaps what is most alarming and indicative of Reading’s year, though, is that only three players have scored more goals in the league for them than Moore’s three.

Having a goal-scorer at the back is always nice but that is not his primary job and so the fact he’s got more than the likes of Sone Aluko and Yann Kermorgant paints a pretty bleak picture.
