Reading picked up a vital three points against Nottingham Forest at the weekend, as they ran out 2-0 winners in an ill-tempered game at the Madejski Stadium.

The Royals took the lead in the first-half as John Swift swept home a Mo Barrow cross to see them have the lead heading into the second-half.

Jose Gomes' side rarely looked troubled all afternoon, and their afternoon got even better when Danny Fox and Tendayi Darikwa were both shown red cards for a dangerous tackle and an altercation.

Reading made their numerical advantage count as Andy Yiadom's cross was turned into his own net by Forest defender, Jack Robinson.

One man who stood out in the win for the Royals was John Swift, and we're going to look into his performance in more detail in our FLW Spotlight.

The creative midfielder scored the opener on the day for Reading and a 50% success rate as he only managed two shots in the entire game.

But in his more advanced role under new boss, Jose Gomes, he seems to be thriving in this Royals team that will be desperate to retain their Championship status.

He made 2 key passes, with Jon Dadi Bodvarsson being the only other player to be level with Swift on that statistic, and Swift also made one successful dribble during the game.

The most encouraging statistic will be his passing though, as the midfielder made 57 passes in total against Forest, which was more than any Reds player.

With a passing accuracy of 80.7% it certainly makes good reading for Reading supporters, and it's evident that Jose Gomes' possession based style of football is already bringing the best out of Swift.

The newly appointed Reading boss will be hoping that Swift can build on this impressive showing for the remainder of this year's campaign as they battle against relegation.
