Swindon Town will be hoping to regroup and go one better after being edged out in the League Two play-offs, concluding their 2021/22 season.

The Robins won four successive matches to secure a sixth-placed finish in League Two, eventually finishing a mere three points from the automatic promotion positions.

Naturally, expectation levels will rise once again next season and all at Swindon will be eyeing up the three automatic promotion places.

It remains to be seen if Ben Garner will the manager at The County Ground when the new campaign begins at the end of July, with the 42-year-old heavily linked with the managerial vacancy at Charlton Athletic of the higher division.

Whilst we wait to see how that situation plays out, and how the new seasons begins for the Robins, here, we take a look at eight  transfer scenarios that could play out at Swindon now the 21/22 season has concluded.

Louie Barry's future is an exciting one, with the Aston Villa loanee impressing during his loan stint with the Robins.

The 18-year-old, who spent times in the academies at West Brom and Barcelona before returning to the Midlands to complete his education with Villa, started the campaign out on loan with Ipswich Town.

A lack of first team opportunities meant that Barry was then sent out to Swindon, a place where he has caught the eye.

If a loan move back to League Two is sanctioned then it is likely that Swindon will be the trusted destination.

The English football pyramid can be excellent when it comes to recruitment, with the Robins perhaps casting their eyes over the National League and below.

Kabongo Tshimanga and Kyle Wootton are two of the fifth-tier's brightest stars from recent seasons, and whilst the former has spent a while out injured, the pair has what it takes to cut it at least a level above.

Swindon undoubtedly will be keeping an eye on the lower divisions as they try to search for gems who will bolster competition levels within the squad.

Premier League and Championship loans are another cost-effective option to welcome real talent to the County Ground on a temporary basis.

Kaine Kesler Hayden and Romoney Crichlow both impressed during the first half of the campaign, whilst Barry succeeded during the second half of the season.

Loaning from the higher divisions has certainly helped boost the squad during the 2021/22 campaign, meaning that it is likely to be an avenue that is explored once again this summer.

Forward line recruitment seems like a top priority for the Robins in this summer, with Josh Davison and the aforementioned Barry returning to Charlton Athletic and Aston Villa respectively.

That leaves Harry McKirdy as seemingly the only forward option that is contracted for next year, and even the 24-year-old is not guaranteed to stay at The County Ground.

The summer is in its infancy, so the club will certainly already be assessing the market for some more attacking options who fit the club's style and culture.

As mentioned in the last slide, the future of McKirdy is a story that could attract a lot of eyes this summer.

Millwall's name has been mentioned next to McKirdy's, however, a report from the Swindon Advertiser claims that there is no interest coming from the Championship club at present.

Scoring 19 league goals in 35 appearances last time out, it is likely that McKirdy will be considered by clubs in the higher divisions as the summer transfer window nears its official opening.

Jack Payne is currently considering fresh terms at The County Ground, with his immediate future another one that Swindon fans will be keeping a close eye on.

The exciting midfielder netted 13 times and provided a further five assists in 35 appearances for the Robins during their League Two campaign, proving to be an important source of goals and creativity.

Payne is the kind of player the Robins need to mount a serious promotion push next season.

Proving to be a versatile option for Garner to call upon, Akin Odimayo is another who has been offered a fresh contract by the Robins, with the 22-year-old considering the new terms.

Operating anywhere across the back four for the Robins, Odimayo has proven to be able to step up to the challenge at League Two level and it remains to be seen what the next step will be.

Odimayo featured 35 times for the Robins in the league last season, adding a further seven in other competitions.

With Odimayo's future at the club still to be determined, the club will perhaps be casting their eyes over defensive options with the official opening of the transfer window edging closer.

Crichlow impressed during his loan stint with the club, proceeding to play limited minutes in the higher division with Plymouth Argyle.

Of course, Huddersfield Town could look to integrate the young defender into the squad next season, however, if it is another loan that the Terriers feel is needed, then Swindon may look to welcome him back.
