Following a relegation scare during the 2021/22 Championship campaign, Reading will be striving to avoid a repeat of what happened last time out.

The Royals eventually finished four points above the drop zone, with Paul Ince managing to steer the Berkshire outfit out of harm's way.

Tasked with what appears to be a sizeable rebuild at The Select Car Leasing Stadium, Ince will be diving in at the deep end when it comes to recruitment, with lots of decisions being made already, with other decisions yet to be made.

The Royals have already lost a real creative threat in John Swift, with the talismanic figure in Berkshire arriving at West Brom on a free transfer.

Whilst we wait and see what happens this summer at The Select Car Leasing Stadium, here, we take a look at eight transfer scenarios that could play out at Reading now the second tier campaign has come to an end...

Andy Rinomhota is another integral first-teamer who could depart for free this summer, if Reading are unable to strike a new deal with the 25-year-old.

Bringing bundles of energy to the midfield position, he is also a technically-gifted player who can dominate the opposition both with the ball and from an athletic perspective too.

Rinomhota could be an excellent pick-up at second-tier level for clubs currently looking for cheaper ways to bolster their playing squad this summer.

Luke Southwood has been told to try and find a new club, as per a report from Football Insider with the 24-year-old playing 25 times in the league for the Royals during the 2021/22 campaign, adding an EFL Cup appearance to that tally.

The young shot-stopper managed three clean sheets in that time, conceding 48 goals in the process.

Football Insider's report claims that his availability is set to spark widespread interest, with Southwood still possessing another year on his current Reading deal.

The future of George Puscas is still to be determined, with the Reading striker suffering play-off heartbreak during his loan spell with Pisa.

Should the Italian outfit had won promotion, then a clause in his loan deal would have meant that Pisa would have agreed to buy him.

The Italian club still have the option to agree a permanent move for Puscas, with the forward still contracted to the Berkshire club until 2024.

However, Ince is yet to run the rule over him, with Puscas just one of nine contracted players in RG2.

Josh Laurent's future is another that is uncertain going into the summer break, with the Royals offering the midfielder fresh terms following the expiry of his contract at the Berkshire club.

Another who is likely to generate widespread interest if he is to depart The Select Car Leasing Stadium, Laurent certainly has the potential to operate nearer the top end of the division.

If Laurent is to remain with Reading beyond this summer, then that would be a massive boost for the club.

Finding himself in a similar situation to Laurent, Tom Holmes could also leave the club if he does not agree fresh terms this summer.

Still just 22 years old, the defender has shown glimpses of the quality he possesses in Reading colours, proving to have a very high potential.

Given the high ceiling, and the ability already shown in his short career thus far, Holmes' potential availability could spark interest as the summer transfer window nears its official opening.

The Premier League loan market could be Reading's friend during next season, and whilst not wanting to become reliant on the services of a player who is temporarily with the club, it can certainly be a short-term solution.

The higher division often trusts a club who are in Reading's situation, as they know that they are likely to see regular minutes.

The likes of Elliot Anderson, Finn Azaz and Mattie Pollock stand out as immediate options for the Royals to at least consider, with all three impressing on loan further down the pyramid last time out.

Given the club's decision to part company with Southwood, goalkeeping recruitment has emerged as a prioritised area for the Royals to pour their attention into.

Again, they could look down the loan route, with the likes of Gavin Bazunu, James Cumming and James Trafford all impressing in their League One loan spells last time out.

They may also look to the permanent market too, but of course, they will be confined from a financial perspective.

Liam Moore could be moved on this month, with the experienced defender still possessing a year left on his current deal - A potential stumbling block.

The 29-year-old spent the second half of the season on loan with Stoke City, however, he did not see too much game time with the Potters.

If they are able to generate a fee for his services this summer, then that will represent good business for the club, whilst it will provide the club with an opportunity to reduce their wage bill.
