Plymouth Argyle's 2021-22 campaign was a positive one for the most part, but it had a very difficult ending.

With the club going into the final day sitting inside the play-offs, MK Dons inflicted a 5-0 defeat on Argyle, which would see them fall outside of the top six.

In the end, Plymouth finished seventh in the final League One standings, three points behind sixth-placed Wycombe Wanderers.

With that being said, it is an important summer ahead for Steven Schumacher and his side.

Recruitment can make all the difference at this level of football, and Argyle must do everything they can to bring the right additions to Home Park ahead of 2022-23 - particularly with a number of players potentially set to leave the club,.

With the play-offs now behind and us and the 2021-22 season officially concluded, we thought we'd take a look at some transfer scenarios that could play out down in the south west this summer.

Unfortunately for Plymouth Argyle fans, one transfer scenario that looks like it will certainly play out this summer is the exit of Panutche Camara from the club.

The club confirmed last month that Camara had been made available for transfer this summer with talks over a new deal for the 25-year-old at Home Park concluding.

Rather than lose him for free in 2023, Camara is firmly in the shop window this summer, and given his performances this season, there is likely someone willing to make an offer for him when the transfer window arrives.

Another transfer scenario that could play out at Plymouth Argyle this summer could also see another key player depart the club.

In recent weeks, it has been rumoured that Norwich City hold an interest in 22-year-old goalkeeper Michael Cooper.

With Tim Krul not getting any younger, the Canaries are clearly looking to the future and Cooper has impressed.

The young shot-stopper made 52 appearances in all competitions for Argyle in 2021/22, keeping an impressive 21 clean sheets during those matches.

If Michael Cooper does depart the club this summer, one obvious transfer scenario that would need to play out is the addition of a first choice goalkeeper.

Luke McCormick is hanging up his gloves at the end of the season, leaving Argyle one light in the goalkeeping department already, and were Cooper to exit, this would only exacerbate the problem.

Callum Burton would be the only remaining senior goalkeeper at the club, and whilst Schumacher could call on a youth goalkeeper to be number three, you do not want to have to rely on two of them in your first team squad.

As such, a goalkeeper will likely need to arrive at Home Park this summer, particularly if Cooper departs.

Another transfer scenario that could arise could see a familiar face return to Home Park in Ryan Broom.

Broom spent the 2021/22 season on loan at Plymouth Argyle, making 43 League One appearances for the club.

In those matches, Broom scored four and assisted six, meaning you would think Plymouth would hold an interest in bringing back the 25-year-old this summer.

Even more so when you consider the fact that he has been transfer listed by Peterborough United with one year left on his contract.

Another Plymouth player that could be the centre of transfer speculation this summer is Ryan Hardie.

Hardie was excellent for Argyle throughout the 2021/22 season, scoring 19 goals and registering five assists in all competitions this campaign.

That sort of return attracts attention, with plenty of clubs at the top of League One and in the Championship in need of a goalscorer.

With a year left on his contract, Argyle can of course refute any offers that arrive, but given Hardie's ability, one may come that is just too good to turn down.

Another transfer scenario the club must face is potentially bringing in somebody that can replace the goals, assists, and versatility that Jordan Garrick offered them this campaign.

Garrick has now returned to his parent club Swansea after his loan spell, but the 23-year-old certainly leaves a big gap to fill.

The 23-year-old netted seven times and registered eight assists in all competitions throughout the season, and also played in a variety of positions, be it on the left, right, or up front.

15 direct goal contributions and that sort of versatility will not be easy to replace, but if the club do not do so, we could be sitting here next season discussing how much of a miss the 23-year-old has been.

Like Panutche Camara, another player whose future looks certain to lie elsewhere is George Cooper.

Steven Schumacher has said the player can leave the club this summer, but having played such little football due to injury, it is unlikely that a permanent buyer will be found.

Instead, with one year still left on his Plymouth contract, a loan deal looks most likely, with the 25-year-old likely to want to prove his fitness to other clubs ahead of a permanent move elsewhere when his current deal expires.

The 25-year-old made just three appearances for Argyle in 2021/22, appearing for a total of 77 minutes across those matches.

Last but not least, the final transfer scenario of our list could potentially see Plymouth Argyle sign a target man striker this summer.

The club tried to bring George Kelly in during the January transfer window, but the Irishman instead opted to join Rotherham United.

As such, you wonder whether Steven Schumacher will once again look to bring in a more physical presence up front this transfer window, simply because it would give Argyle more options.

There are always times in certain matches where a more direct approach needs to be taken, but at present, their current forward options all like the ball to either run on to, or to feet.

This could definitely be an area to watch in terms of re-enforcements this summer.
