Oxford United will be looking to push on in League One later this year after missing out on a place in the play-offs last season.

After finishing in the top six during the 2019-20 and 2020-21 campaigns, the U's would have been confident in their ability to secure a top-six finish in the previous term.

However, despite producing some positive performances in the third-tier, Oxford ended the season seven points adrift of Wycombe Wanderers, who sealed the final spot in the play-offs on the final day of the regular campaign.

Wycombe went on to face Sunderland in the final after defeating Milton Keynes Dons.

In what was the final game of the season in League One, the Black Cats managed to secure promotion to the Championship by beating the Chairboys 2-0 at Wembley Stadium.

With the window set to open this month, we have decided to take a look at eight transfer scenarios that might play out at Oxford over the course of June.

Even though Oxford have offered Billy Bodin a new deal, it remains to be seen whether the 30-year-old will agree to these fresh terms.

Bodin managed to score six goals and provide five assists for his team-mates in 21 league appearances last season as he illustrated that he is still more than capable of delivering the goods in this division.

Although the U's will be confident in their ability to convince Bodin to stay, the attacker may opt to move on to pastures new if he receives a contract offer from a Championship side in the coming weeks.

Nathan Holland is set to leave West Ham United this month after the Premier League outfit opted against offering him a new deal.

Over the course of his previous two loan spells at Oxford, Holland managed to provide 16 direct goal contributions in 51 appearances for the club in all competitions.

Having demonstrated that he is capable of making a difference in League One, it wouldn't be at all surprising if the winger is given the opportunity to join the U's on a permanent basis this summer.

Elliott Moore is currently on course to feature for Oxford in the 2022/23 campaign after the club opted to trigger an option in his existing deal last month.

However, when you consider that Bristol City have recently been linked with a move for the defender, the U's may need to brace themselves for some bids in the coming months.

When you consider that Moore managed to average an impressive WhoScored match rating of 6.94 in the third-tier, Oxford will not want to sell him and thus it wouldn't be a shock if they are able to fend off interest from elsewhere this summer.

Slavi Spasov was offered a new short-term contract by Oxford last month and has yet to make a decision on whether to sign this particular deal.

During his time with the U's, the forward has only managed to make two appearances for the club at senior level and was loaned out to North Leigh earlier this year.

If Spasov doesn't feel as if Oxford will be able to provide him with the game-time that he needs to improve as a player, he may opt to cut ties with the club this month.

Oisin Smyth would have been hoping to feature at senior level for Oxford during the second-half of the 2021/22 campaign after joining the club in January.

However, the Northern Ireland Under-21 international has yet to make his bow for the U's.

Unless Smyth is able to impress during pre-season, Oxford ought to consider loaning him out to a team in a lower division as this will give the attacking midfielder the opportunity to make strides in terms of his development.

Whereas Oxford are currently able to call upon the services of Sam Baldock and Matty Taylor, they may need to draft in a replacement for Sam Winnall this summer after opting against offering the forward a new deal.

Winnall only managed to score once for the U's in 22 appearances last season and thus it didn't come as a surprise when it was announced that he was set to leave the club upon the expiry of his contract.

By drafting in a striker who is capable of providing some fierce competition for Baldock and Taylor, Oxford could potentially reach new heights in League One.

It could be argued that Ben Davis could benefit from a temporary exit from the Kassam Stadium this summer.

The midfielder only made one senior appearance for the club last season and could find it difficult to force his way into contention for a place in the club's starting eleven in the upcoming campaign.

Providing that Robinson is able to find a team that is willing to play Davis week-in, week-out, the 21-year-old may be sent out on loan in order to prevent his career from stalling.

Mackenzie Chapman was sent out on a short-term loan by Oxford to Banbury United last season before returning to the club in November.

Currently behind Simon Eastwood and Jack Stevens in the pecking order at the club, Chapman is unlikely to feature at senior level next season due to the presence of these two goalkeepers.

By sanctioning another temporary move for the shot-stopper, Oxford will give them the chance to feature week-in, week-out in a lower division.
