In the end, a hugely impressive season for Luton Town ended in somewhat disappointing style.

Having defied many expectations to claim a Championship play-off place against the odds, Nathan Jones' side ultimately missed out on promotion to the Premier League, after a semi-final defeat to Huddersfield Town.

That is something that the Hatters will obviously be keen to build on next season, having now proved that they are capable of competing at the top end of the Championship table.

Of course, if they are to continue to do that, Luton will have to strengthen their squad over the course of the summer window, while their success in 2021/22 will no doubt have attracted attention to some of those currently on the books at Kenilworth Road.

As a result, it looks set to be a busy summer ahead for Jones and co. so we've taken a look at eight Luton transfer scenarios that could play out over the course of the summer, right here.

Injuries certainly played havoc in goal for Luton during the course of the season, with no fewer than six goalkeepers featuring for the club in the 2021/22 campaign.

With a number of those having been on emergency loan deals, and with Simon Sluga leaving the club earlier this year, the Hatters will have to bring in some extra options between the posts, to avoid a repeat of that situation this time around.

It has already been reported that Hull's Matt Ingram is a target for the Hatters, and given he was the emergency loan 'keeper who featured for Luton in the final games of the season, it would be no surprise if that was a deal the club pursued.

At the other end of the pitch, one target that Luton could revisit, is Newcastle United attacker Elliot Anderson.

The Hatters were interested in a loan deal for the 19-year-old back in January, although no move materialised, with Anderson instead spending the second half of the campaign on loan at Bristol Rovers, where his impact proved key in firing the club to promotion from League Two.

Considering that spell proved that Anderson is capable of playing at a much higher level, and the fact that he may still be some way off Newcastle's first-team, it wouldn't feel like a huge surprise to Luton reignite their interest in him this summer.

Another attacking option that the Hatters could look into a move for come the summer, is Jack Rudoni.

The 20-year-old enjoyed an impressive campaign in 2021/22, scoring 12 goals and providing five assists in 41 league appearances for AFC Wimbledon, something that led to reports of interest in the midfielder from Luton.

With Wimbledon having suffered relegation from League One this season, and Rudoni now into the final year of his contract, the Dons may find it hard to fend off approaches for the midfielder, meaning there could be an opportunity for Luton to swoop here.

Among the players who have been at Luton this season whose future we could soon see a decision over, is Robert Snodgrass.

The midfielder made the move to Kenilworth Road on a short-term deal until the summer earlier this year following his release from West Brom, and went on to make 11 appearances for Jones' side in total.

Luton confirmed in their retained list that they remain in talks with the 34-year-old over a new deal, and given both will want to start putting plans in place for the new season as soon as possible, you would expect a decision over whether Snodgrass stays or goes to come sooner rather than later.

Another player who finds himself in a similar position when it comes to his contract situation is somewhat of a Luton icon, in the form of Danny Hylton.

The striker has been with Luton since their days in League Two, although he has found himself playing something of a reduced role for the club since they made their return to the Championship.

Even so, the 33-year-old is still in talks with the Hatters over a new deal, and it another who will need to have his future decided soon, then both he and the club can further advance their plans for the 2022/23 campaign.

One Luton player who seems almost certain to the subject of some considerable speculation during the summer transfer window, is Elijah Adebayo.

The striker enjoyed an excellent season for the Hatters, scoring 16 goals in 41 league games to emerge as a driving force behind the club's push for a top six spot in the Championship, something which has already seen several clubs take an interest in him.

Given his importance to Luton, the Hatters will surely not want to let him go any time soon, meaning there could be something of a battle for his services to come over the next few months.

Carlos Mendes Gomes arrived at Luton last summer, following an excellent 2020/21 campaign that had seen him fire Morecambe to an odd-defying promotion from League Two.

However, the winger endured something of a quiet debut campaign at Kenilworth Road, starting just two Championship games across the whole of the season.

Given the potential the 23-year-old previously showed, that could mean that a loan move for next season could be worth considering for Mendes Gomes, to give him regular first-team football that could help him rediscover the form he previously showed with Morecambe.

One Luton Town player who already has already spent time out on loan from Kenilworth Road this year, is Dion Pereira.

The midfielder spent the second half of the campaign on loan in League Two with Bradford City, where he scored once in ten appearances for the Yorkshire club.

With Luton looking to build on their push for promotion this season, it could be hard for Pereira to walk straight into their side after that fourth-tier loan stint, meaning another temporary move elsewhere for the 23-year-old, could make sense this summer.
