Derby County's season this year was one they will be keen to forget after suffering relegation and being affected by off the pitch matters.

In the end, the Rams finished 23rd in the league with 34 points although looking at their goal difference of -8 compared to -40 and -44 of the other relegation sides shows that they weren't far off it in terms of football but the points deduction put them in a tough position.

However, things finally seem to be repairing themselves at Pride Park with the takeover nearly there and Wayne Rooney looking likely to stay out as manager.

However, the new owners and the Derby boss will have a big job on their hands this season as they look to rebuild the side and put themselves in a position to compete next season.

With that in mind, here we take a look at eight transfer scenarios that might play out at Derby County now the season has come to an end.

Tom Lawrence is out of contract this summer with Derby this summer and the club captain has received plenty of interest from other sides including Fulham, West Brom and Rangers.

Given he has performed consistently in the Championship for a number of years it won't be a surprise to see him leave the club this season although he did recently say he would be open to signing a new contract at Pride Park.

However, when you consider the fact that he will want to push as high up the leagues as possible it would be surprising if he did stay put this summer.

Ryan Allsop is another player out of contract this summer and after being Derby's first choice goalkeeper making 33 appearances for the Rams, it wouldn't be a surprise to see him want a move back to the Championship.

However, according to journalist Alan Nixon, the club are hoping that they will be able to strike a deal with the keeper to keep him at the club for another season.

Furthermore, the player himself spoke about how he was enjoying his time at the club and would be happy to stay put so once the takeover goes through, this could be an early deal.

Cardiff City were linked with a move for the 29-year-old, but following their acquisition of Jak Alnwick, he looks not to be a target anymore, leaving the road clear for Derby to offer fresh terms.

Nathan Byrne has attracted plenty of attention from Championship clubs following Derby's relegation this summer and he is another player who has proven he has the quality to play in the league above.

However, the Rams were careful to protect themselves with this one as they made the choice to trigger an extension in his contract to keep him at the club for another 12 months.

Although this won't confirm him staying put at Pride Park, it now means he won't be able to leave on a free so the club will now be waiting to see what, if any, bids come in for him.

18-year-old Malcolm Ebiowei showed plenty of promise this season, making 16 appearances and notching a goal and two assists.

Due to Derby's relegation, he is another player that has interest, which is coming from the likes of Newcastle United and Manchester United, according to the Daily Mail.

Rooney is keen to keep the player at the club but as he is out of contract this summer, it will be solely up to the player to choose what he wants to do and he may have to make the choice of whether to stay at Derby and get regular football or make the move to the top flight.

Curtis Davies was a key part of Derby's defence this past season - not only did he prove to be solid at the back, but he was also able to contribute four goals in 46 appearances as well.

He is also out of contract this summer and given he has proven his value at Championship level, there could be interest in the 37-year-old from other sides - Bristol City have regularly been linked and Hull City have also been linked with a return for the veteran.

However, Derby will be hoping they can keep their player of the season on as his leadership and experience could prove to be useful in the side pushing for promotion next season.

Krystian Bielik has proven his worth at Pride Park and the Polish international is definitely too good for League One.

With two years left on his contract the club could choose to keep him, but considering he's probably on some of the highest wages at the club, they would surely be open to accepting a bid for him.

Bielik picked up an injury just before the end of the season, which could jeopardise the possibility of a club coming in for him this summer - meaning his future at the club is still an uncertain one.

However, Poland manager Czesław Michniewicz has revealed that Bielik must depart the Rams this summer if he wants to save his international career, with League One football not an option for the former Arsenal man.

Aden Flint has been linked with a move to Derby, as per a report from Alan Nixon.

The 32-year-old is out of contract at Cardiff at the end of June and has been released, but he has been a mainstay in the Bluebirds team this past season, making 38 appearances.

This signing could bring some experience into Wayne Rooney's side and the player has made plenty of appearances across the Football League, reaching over 400 games for the likes of Swindon Town and Bristol City.

Flint also experienced promotion from League One back in 2015 with City, so he will know what it takes to get out of this league and therefore could be a great addition to the squad.

Phil Bardsley is out of contract with Burnley this summer and considering his game time has decreased in the two most recent seasons, it looks likely that he will exit Turf Moor this summer.

Although he is 36 years old, he has been linked with a move to Derby, where he would link up with former Manchester United team-mate and close friend Wayne Rooney.

Although he is getting older now, the defender has plenty of experience at a high level and therefore could be a great addition at League One level - so long as he doesn't ask for extravagant wages.
