Championship outfit Coventry City will be looking to level up their squad once more as they look to continue building towards the top six, after narrowly missing out on the play-offs last term.

However, Luton Town are one side that will provide Mark Robins with real hope they can come close to winning Premier League football next term, with the Sky Blues following a similar path to Nathan Jones' men in moving their way up the English football pyramid.

The Hatters lost out narrowly to Huddersfield Town in the play-off semi-final earlier this month - but they look set for a bright future regardless and the same could be said for Coventry under the stewardship of Robins.

However, the Sky Blues' boss won't want to rest on his laurels with the likes of Burnley, Watford and Norwich City all looking strong despite their relegation back to the second tier, with the addition of Sunderland potentially causing them an issue as well if Alex Neil's side can exceed expectations and push for another promotion-chasing finish.

With this need for the second-tier side to have a productive summer window at the CBS Arena, we take a look ahead at eight transfer scenarios that may play out in the Midlands in the coming months.

The Sky Blues may be the victims of their own success during the summer with Viktor Gyokeres being linked with a move to Premier League outfit Fulham and league rivals Middlesbrough, both of whom are likely to have a decent amount of money to spend in the coming months.

Marco Silva is likely to be backed more heavily than Chris Wilder though due to the Cottagers' promotion - and that may enable them to beat Boro in this race for the Swedish forward.

Some saw recruiting the ex-Brighton forward permanently last summer as a real gamble considering he endured an underwhelming 2020/21 season - but their gamble paid off with the 23-year-old scored 17 goals in 45 league appearances this term.

If a side stumps up a hefty fee for his services, he could be off.

One forward has already been linked to the second-tier side in recent days - but he probably wouldn't be Gyokeres' replacement and the reasons why will be explained on the next page.

If they are to let go of the 23-year-old, the onus is on the hierarchy to provide Robins with the funds needed to lure a new permanent forward to the CBS Arena, something that should be a non-negotiable for Robins in his quest to guide his side to greater things.

Scoring 17 league goals and 18 in all competitions during 2021/22, it would be nearly impossible for the club to achieve a similar or higher finish if they didn't bring in an adequate replacement for him.

If Robins puts his foot down and demands a replacement, a player that should arrive permanently to provide him with a long-term option, the hierarchy may just buckle and give him the cash needed considering how important their manager is to the cause.

He may be linked with other jobs next season if he can continue to impress, so the board will need to keep him happy. This is why it would be plausible to see a big signing arrive if Gyokeres left.

Some would call target Luke Plange a possible replacement for the 23-year-old - but with just four goals and two assists to his name in 26 league appearances for Derby County during 2021/22 - he may not be ready to be their main talisman yet.

He's only 19 at this stage, so that's completely understandable. But even if Gyokeres doesn't leave, Plange could be a good addition to provide another senior forward option alongside the former, Matt Godden and Martyn Waghorn.

That will increase the chances of Robins being able to play two up top even if injuries start to creep in, a tactical advantage the 52-year-old will appreciate as he looks to have as many tricks up his sleeve as possible.

Crystal Palace may even be prepared to accept no loan fee and pay a portion of Plange's wages if he moves to the CBS Arena, just so the youngster can have the experience of plying his trade with a side likely to be competing at the right end of the second-tier table this term. For Coventry then, this could be a cheap addition.

There is a chance Gyokeres will stay put and Plange comes in, potentially leaving Fabio Tavares surplus to requirements in the Midlands temporarily.

Considering he only made seven league appearances for the Sky Blues last term, a loan at this stage of his career may help him to develop and it would certainly be more beneficial than sitting on the bench or in the stands.

The 21-year-old still has plenty of time to improve - but perhaps only one or two more years to make the grade before the club makes a crucial judgement call on where his future lies.

If he can fulfil his potential, he could be a real asset at the CBS Arena, but for now, he would benefit from a temporary move away.

Coventry are likely to be interested in a return for former loanee Jake Clarke-Salter, whose contract at Chelsea expires in the summer.

However, Thomas Tuchel's side have the option to extend his contract by a further 12 months when they are free from sanctions, something that looks set to be imminent with a takeover at Stamford Bridge close to being finalised.

Even if they don't renew his contract, the Sky Blues face major competition for his signature with Leeds United and Eredivisie outfit PSV among sides thought to have taken an interest in the centre-back.

If they don't make him an offer though, Coventry may have a chance of recruiting him and the central defender could do a lot worse than sign on with the second-tier outfit, with playing time likely to be guaranteed.

On a free transfer as well, this would be a bargain. You could even see the club opting for another loan deal if the Blues decide to trigger his contract extension.

Some would say this is unrealistic considering the size of Spurs, the chance to play with world-class players and the wage package they are likely to offer, but Callum O'Hare will be desperate to continue playing as much football as possible.

Although the ex-Aston Villa man could enjoy success in the English capital, Jack Clarke and Ryan Sessegnon's lack of progress there may be a warning sign to the 24-year-old who may not be able to make the step up to the top tier seamlessly yet.

The Telegraph believe Antonio Conte's men are keeping tabs on him at this stage - but without assurances on his playing time - the attacking midfielder may want to stay put at the CBS Arena.

Born in the Midlands too, he may prefer to extend his stay at Robins' side for now.

Several sides are reported to be interested in midfielder Gustavo Hamer and with good reason.

The Brazilian recorded three goals and 10 assists in 39 league appearances for the Sky Blues last term as a real game-changer once again, proving to be an integral figure in their midfield.

In a boost for his side, he signed a new contract back in March to extend his stay at the club until the summer of 2024, giving them plenty of power at the negotiating table.

If they decide against accepting a bid early on this summer, it could potentially create a bidding war with several teams including Brighton and Hove Albion having him on their shortlist. This can only be a good thing for the Sky Blues, who will want to generate as much money for his services as possible if they are to let go of him.

According to The Sun, the second-tier side are admirers of another Palace player in Tayo Adaramola, who plies his trade as a left-back for the Eagles.

Also appearing for the Republic of Ireland at a youth international level, he could potentially come in as a replacement for Ian Maatsen who may not return to the CBS Arena following the expiration of his loan spell.

Ideally, they need someone who will provide more going forward than Jake Bidwell and Adaramola could be the man they need to fill the attacking void left by Maatsen, who has been linked with a move to Borussia Dortmund recently.

With this, it would be a surprise if the Dutchman returns.
