Swansea City will be hoping to move forward as a club next season under the guidance of their head coach Russell Martin.

Drafted in as Steve Cooper's successor last year, Martin has managed to further the development of some of the club's younger players this season as the likes of Flynn Downes, Michael Obafemi and Joel Piroe have all produced eye-catching displays in the Championship for the Jacks.

Although Swansea already have some classy operators at their disposal, it wouldn't be a shock if the club opted to draft in a host of fresh faces before the start of the 2022/23 campaign.

Martin will also need to make decisions regarding the futures of some of the existing members of his squad.

Ahead of Swansea's clash with Middlesbrough this weekend, we have decided to take a look at eight of the club's players who could be sold, loaned or released in the summer transfer window.

According to a recent report from Dutch outlet Voetbal International, Leicester City are currently keeping tabs on Piroe ahead of the upcoming window.

Since joining Swansea last season, the forward has produced a host of fantastic attacking displays for the club in the Championship as he has scored 20 goals at this level.

Although the Jacks will be in no rush to sell Piroe, the forward may be tempted to make the move to Leicester due to their Premier League status.

If Leicester opt to submit a huge bid for the 22-year-old, Swansea may find it difficult to turn down this offer.

Yan Dhanda's contract with the Jacks is set to expire in June and he has to agree fresh terms at the Swansea.com Stadium.

The 23-year-old has only featured on three occasions in the Championship this season due to the presence of Jamie Paterson and Piroe.

Dhanda's last league appearance came during the club's 3-1 defeat to Stoke City last year.

Seemingly not part of Martin's plans for the future, it wouldn't be at all surprising if Dhanda becomes a free-agent this summer.

Downes has produced some encouraging displays for Swansea since joining the club from Ipswich Town last year.

In the 33 appearances that he has made for the Jacks in the Championship, the midfielder has registered a superb pass success rate of 92.5%.

A report from The Times last month suggested that Leeds United could swoop for Downes if Kalvin Phillips moves on to pastures new.

Whereas Swansea will want to keep Downes at the club, they may end up selling him if Leeds submit a sizeable offer.

Josh Gould's deal with Swansea reaches a crescendo this summer and the club have yet to decide whether to trigger an option in his contract which will see him stay for another 12 months.

After making eight appearances for Ebbsfleet United earlier this season, Gould returned to Swansea in January where he has failed to make any inroads on the club's starting eleven.

Currently behind Ben Hamer and Andy Fisher in the pecking order, the goalkeeper may be allowed to move on to pastures new following the conclusion of the 2021/22 campaign.

Steven Benda started the current season as Swansea's first-choice keeper as he featured in each of the club's opening five league games.

However, after falling out of favour with Martin, the 23-year-old was sent out on loan to Peterborough United in January and has since gone to feature on 11 occasions for Grant McCann's side in all competitions.

Unless Benda is given another opportunity to prove his worth at Swansea, he could be sold by the club as they will be looking to raise funds for new signings this summer.

Jay Fulton has only featured on a sporadic basis for Swansea in the second-tier this season after making 47 appearances in all competitions during the previous campaign.

Limited to just eight starts in the Championship in the current term, the midfielder may need to secure a move away from the Jacks to prevent his career from stalling.

Considering that Fulton's contract is set to run until 2024, Swansea could secure a reasonable fee for him if interest emerges from elsewhere.

After making 13 appearances for Swansea during the first half of the season, Liam Cullen was loaned out to Lincoln City in January.

Since making this switch, the forward has gone on to provide two direct goal contributions in 18 appearances for the Imps in the third-tier.

Unless Martin is willing to call upon Cullen's services on a regular basis next season, it could be argued that he should be looking to sanction another temporary move for the 22-year-old this summer as it could help him further his development.

Despite scoring a hat-trick for Swansea in the League Cup earlier this season, Morgan Whittaker only featured on six occasions in the Championship before sealing a temporary switch to Lincoln earlier this year.

The attacking midfielder has managed to demonstrate glimpses of his talent in League One in recent months as he has scored five goals at this level.

When you consider that Whittaker's deal at Swansea is set to run until 2025, there is still plenty of time for him to eventually become a regular member of their starting eleven and thus sending him out on loan again this summer to a team who can guarantee him first-team could turn out to be a wise move by the club.
