Wigan have had an excellent season this year managing to come out as champions in League One and gain promotion back to the Championship

There was a race to the top of the table but in the end they were able to beat Rotherham to the title finishing the season two points clear.

Next season the Latics will be looking for some stability in the Championship, which means work in the summer transfer window must start soon as they seek to make some additions to their squad that will strengthen them in the higher league.

Whilst they will want to make some permanent signings, the impact of loan signings too cannot be underestimated and are often a good way for teams to recruit promising young players that can help their efforts.

Here, we take a look at eight Premier League players that Wigan might want to consider loaning for the season.

Kell Watts has been on loan with Wigan this season from Newcastle United and has made 26 appearances for the Latics establishing himself a solid place in the side.

He has put in some brilliant performances for Wigan this season and given Newcastle United's takeover, it's unlikely that we will see him playing for the Magpies next season.

However, he recently signed a new deal with Eddie Howe's side meaning there seems to be a future for him at the club. Furthermore, with Wigan's promotion his parent club would probably be keen to see how he gets on at a higher level.

Wigan already know what they're getting with the player and he is settled in so it would make sense for the club to go back for him again.

Conor Coventry spent this season on loan with MK Dons who just missed out on promotion after losing to Wycombe in the play-offs.

The midfielder made 22 appearances this season and West Ham will no doubt be keen to see him have an opportunity to play in a higher league as he nearly got there with MK.

Furthermore, it will be a loan signing for Wigan that won't feel out of reach but the 22-year-old could add to what they've got already.

Parrott is another player who was on loan with MK Dons this season.

The 20-year-old had a massive part to play in their campaign and his next step will be playing in the Championship.

In 41 appearances, he scored eight times and also provided seven assists and although he would be sure to do the same thing in League One again this season, Tottenham will be keen for him to have the chance to progress at the higher level now.

Marcus Forss was on loan with Hull for the second half of the season from Brentford.

With Ivan Toney ahead of him at his parent club, he's unlikely to get a look in there but will be keen for another opportunity in the Championship.

At Hull he was in and out of the squad meaning his loan didn't go as well as he would have hoped but as a newly promoted team, Wigan could get their hands on him and give him the opportunity to prove himself by getting consistent playing time.

Dion Sanderson got regular game time with QPR on loan this season having made 26 appearances.

The 22-year-old doesn't look likely to get game time at Wolves next season so another loan move will be on the cards for him.

He has got regular championship experience at a team that has been pushing up the table so would be able to add significant amounts to the squad.

There is still room for him to develop but Lean Richardson could help him do this.

Leighton Clarkson joined Blackburn on loan this season from Liverpool and despite only making 12 appearances, he was able to contribute two goals and three assists.

Considering he joined the club at the start of the season and didn't get played until the end of the season, it's not likely that Rovers would make another move for him.

However, if Wigan gave him a chance and more game time he would no doubt be able to build upon what he has achieved so far.

Luke Plange made 26 appearances for Derby this season and was able to contribute four goals and two assists to his side's efforts this season.

Even though he is only 19-years-old, he has done brilliantly and deserves the chance to continue progressing at Championship level.

With Derby relegated to League One, Palace will be keen to send him to a new club at the same level he has already started doing well at.

Therefore, Wigan could make use of his talents.

Theo Corbeanu was on loan with MK Dons this season too and the centre-forward made 29 appearances scoring three times and three assists.

He's unlikely to be playing for Wolves next season but will be wanting to step up from League One to the next step and given MK Dons won't give him that opportunity now, Wigan would seem like a suitable club.

He's done well with both Sheffield Wednesday and MK Dons this season and therefore now is his opportunity to try it at the next level.
