Charlton Athletic have leant on younger players to fill out their squad in recent years, which has seen many opportunities handed out to players from the academy making their first steps into the senior game.

With the club in League One, there is a chance to give younger players some first team exposure in the Papa John's Trophy and to see which of the up and coming crop are most suited to the senior game.

This has seen a number of players leave the Addicks in recent years with a handful of cup appearances to their name.

Recruitment has also not been a strength for some years now, leading to some signings having very little impact at the club before moving on.

With some still in the EFL, some retired and others having ventured into non-league, here, we have taken a look at eight players you probably forgot ever played for Charlton Athletic...

Abraham Odoh was picked up by Charlton from Tooting and Mitcham in 2019 and went on to make one FA Cup appearance for the club.

The 21-year-old showed a lot of promise, receiving most of his opportunities in pre-season but was not able to make the step up and was released in the summer of 2020.

The pandemic produced a very difficult climate for unattached players to get noticed, but Odoh eventually found a second opportunity in the EFL at Rochdale, signing in February 2021.

The wideman has been regularly involved in Dale's disappointing first season in the fourth tier since relegation from League One.

Wade Small played one game for Charlton in the League Cup in 2009/10.

Starting in a 1-0 extra time loss to Hereford United, he was substituted and replaced by Nicky Bailey after 74 minutes.

Fellow forgotten Addick Alex Stavrinou started in midfield that night as Charlton crashed out in the first round.

Small retired in 2013 after a spell at Kingstonian, having also played for Aldershot Town, Margate, Lewes and Tooting and Mitcham in the twilight of his career.

Charlton signed Stuart Fleetwood from Forest Green Rovers in the summer of 2008.

The striker endured four loan spells away from The Valley before eventually moving on to Hereford United two years later.

The former Wales U21 international only managed one senior appearance for the Addicks, as a substitute in the League Cup defeat at Hereford, sharing the same sole disappointing Charlton appearance as Wade Small.

The 35-year-old is still going strong in non-league with Yate Town.

Another League Cup one appearance wonder is Wilberforce Ocran.

The Ghanaian-born striker signed for the Addicks from Barnsley in the summer of 2018 and came on as a substitute in the Addicks' 2019/20 first round exit to Forest Green Rovers.

Since leaving the club in October 2020, Ocran has played for Brentwood, London Colney, Pontefract and is currently at Hemsworth.

The Addicks were operating with a very thin squad at the tale end of the Roland Duchatelet era and throughout that of East Street Investments, seeing Ocran and others earn opportunities in cup competitions due to a lack of a second string.

Oliver Muldoon, 27, showed a lot of promise in the Charlton youth ranks but the cultured midfielder was not able to make a sustained step up to senior professional football and is currently plying his trade with Hornchurch.

After loan spells with Gillingham, Dagenham and Redbridge and Braintree, Muldoon was released by the Addicks, briefly picked up by Gillingham before signing for Maidstone United in 2017.

He later joined Chelmsford City for just over a season before finding a better fit at Hornchurch.

Charlton signed Dean Sinclair from Barnet following relegation from the Premier League in 2007.

The versatile midfielder's move to The Valley did not go to plan, and he was sent out on loan five times before eventually being let go in the summer of 2010.

Sinclair managed two appearances for the Addicks, both in the League Cup and scored in a third round defeat to Luton Town in 2007.

The 37-year-old hung up his boots in 2016 after a spell with Hampton and Richmond Borough.

Eggert Jonsson spent just over a month at Charlton, on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the first half of the 2012/13 season.

The 33-year-old made two league appearances at that time, starting in a 1-0 win at Burnley, where Danny Haynes grabbed the only goal of the game, and making a brief substitute appearance in a 2-0 win at home to Peterborough United.

The 21-time Iceland international is still going in the top-flight of his homeland with Hafnarfjördur.

Finally, one of the most successful names on this list is Serbian centre back Milos Veljkovic.

The Serbia international and Werder Bremen defender spent a brief spell on loan at Charlton from Tottenham Hotspur in 2015.

Veljkovic has gone on to make 167 appearances for Werder since and will be hoping to win promotion back to the Bundesliga at the first time of asking this term.

Werder are currently top of 2. Bundesliga with six games remaining to hold off Darmstadt, St Pauli and Schalke.
