It's been a frustrating season for Bristol City fans but they still travelled down to Bournemouth in good numbers on Saturday to get behind their team.

The gulf in class between City and their hosts was clear to see, with the game not as close as the 3-2 scoreline suggests, and highlighted just how far they've got to go if they want to challenge for promotion under Nigel Pearson.

This summer is going to be a pivotal one for Pearson as he looks to strengthen his squad and shape them into the group that he believes can help the club make the progress necessary.

The Robins are rarely big spenders but investment in the squad will be needed this summer, that's for sure.

The City hierarchy will be wary, however, as they've made some rather forgettable signings over the years.

With that in mind, we've highlighted 8 players you probably forgot ever played for Bristol City...

West Bromwich Albion winger Callum Robinson simply loves playing against Bristol City and it's perhaps because he's a former Robins player.

The 27-year-old spent a brief spell on loan at Ashton Gate from Aston Villa in the first half of the 2015/16 campaign.

Robinson is unbeaten in 11 games against City, having won nine and drawn two, and has bagged six goals and three assists.

That's a better record than against any other club.

Another player that has proven a difficult opponent for the Robins, George Saville has won more games against City in his career than all but one other club.

The midfielder's time in Bs3 was short and rather forgettable – lasting just four months while on loan from Wolves in the second half of the 2014/15 campaign.

That was a big year for City, seeing them with the EFL Trophy and League One, but Saville's contributions weren't particularly memorable.

Millwall centre-back Alex Pearce is a seasoned campaigner in the EFL – making more than 350 combined appearances in the Championship and League One.

He's best known for his time at Reading, Millwall, and Derby County while his spell at Ashton Gate was more of a whistle-stop tour.

Pearce signed on loan from Reading in January 2016 and made seven appearances in total.

Surely the shortest City spell on this list, Ryan Fredericks spent just 25 days as a Robins player.

Signed from Tottenham on the 6th of August 2015, he never properly settled in the South West and was sold to Fulham on the 31st of that same month.

That's not to say he wasn't regularly involved – making five appearances for City in total in that time.

Fredericks has gone on to bigger and better things since and is currently in the Premier League with West Ham.

A proper English football journeyman, Stephen Henderson has bounced around plenty of clubs in his long career.

With that in mind, it is sometimes easy to forget that Ashton Gate was one of his first stops.

The goalkeeper signed from Aston Villa on a free transfer in 2007 and spent four years at the club – mostly out on loan – before joining Portsmouth.

He made just five appearances in that time.

Brighton defender Lewis Dunk is a familiar face for any fans of the Premier League, having now tallied up more than 150 appearances in the division for the Seagulls.

Before he was a top flight regular, however, Dunk did briefly ply his trade at Ashton Gate.

The centre-back spent a month on loan with the Robins during the 2013/14 campaign, which was ultimately a disappointing one for City, and made three appearances before returning to the South Coast club.

Sam Vokes has scored plenty of EFL goals over the years.

Unfortunately for City fans, he didn't find the net once during his short spell with the Championship club.

The Wales international joined on a one-month loan in the 2010/11 season but only featured once for the Robins before heading back to parent club Wolves.

It's a period that proved rather forgettable for both Vokes and the Robins – and of course for the Ashton Gate faithful.

With two Premier League promotions under his belt, John Ruddy has enjoyed an impressive career in English football.

The goalkeeper is most associated with Wolves and Norwich City and it's fair to say his time at Ashton Gate isn't something that has lived long in the memory.

He joined on a one-month loan from Everton in the 2006/07 League One campaign and made just one appearance for the Bs3 outfit during that time – a 3-1 win against Carlisle United.
