It's going to be an interesting summer for Stoke City and one in which supporters will likely want to see their club make some shrewd moves in the transfer market.

The progress has been clear to see for Michael O'Neill's side but they still have a fair way to go to be back where they want to be – competing for promotion back to the Premier League.

The Potters relied a fair bit on free agent signings in the last summer window and with finances likely to be tight again this time around, it would be no surprise to see them do the same again.

With the end of the season and the start of the transfer window not far away now, rumours are already beginning to circle about who could be arriving at the Bet365 Stadium this summer.

With that in mind, we've outlined 8 players who are or should be on Stoke City's transfer radar for this summer...

We'll start with one of Stoke's reported targets, Swindon Town defender Akin Odimayo.

According to TEAMtalk, the Potters are one of a number of Championship clubs interested in the 21-year-old after he's impressed in his first season with the Robins.

With Swindon potentially facing relegation to League Two and the defender's contract status uncertain, this could prove a cheap deal.

Capable of playing as either a right-back or a centre-back, Odimayo is still a bit raw but could be a useful squad player at the moment and potentially develop into something more important than that moving forward.

Cold water has been poured on the reports that Sheffield Wednesday were keen, which is good news for Stoke.

Another young player linked with a move to the Bet365 Stadium this summer, Salvatore Trezza is an 18-year-old Italian goalkeeper that plays for Serie C side Padova.

The teenager has been on loan with Series D side Campodarsego and it seems there is a fair bit of interest in him.

According to Tutto Mercato Web, Stoke are keen on Trezza but there's also interest from Granada, Malaga, Grasshopper, Lucerne, and Brescia.

It is understood that the Italian shot-stopper has "distinguished himself in recent months for top notch performances" and "is considered to be one of the brightest talents in the fourth tier".

The Potters were no strangers to the free agent market last season and have been linked with a move for Sheffield Wednesday winger Kadeem Harris, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

According to The Telegraph, Stoke are one of a number of Championship clubs that want to sign the wide player on a free transfer.

Stoke could do with adding some more quality out wide and landing the 27-year-old would help them do just that.

Harris' Owls future may hinge on which division they're playing in next season, so the Potters may well be hoping Wednesday go down.

Another potential free agent and one that will surely be attracting the attention of a number of clubs is Barnsley skipper Alex Mowatt.

The all-action midfielder has been key to their play-off push this season – pulling the strings from midfield as well as scoring eight goals and adding seven assists.

Mowatt is out of contract in the summer and you feel he's a player that Stoke should have their eye on, particularly if he's available on a free transfer.

Landing the 26-year-old on that sort of deal would be too good of a chance to miss out on but there will surely be competition for him.

There's been a lot of talk about the future of some of Stoke's centre-backs, with Nathan Collins drawing a lot of reported interest in January, so adding some cover in that position could be a smart move in the summer.

One player that could be on the move is Dion Sanderson, who only has one year left on his deal at Wolves meaning they could be looking to cash in during the summer window.

After his impressive performances on loan at Sunderland, the centre-back has been linked with the Black Cats alongside Crystal Palace, Huddersfield Town, and Sheffield United.

It is understood he could be available for around £2 million this summer, a price that should have Stoke interested.

As previously mentioned, adding some more quality on the flanks should be a priority for Stoke this season.

Signing Rangers winger Jordan Jones could help solve that issue and the x-year-old has shown glimpses of just what a talented player he is while on loan at Sunderland since January.

The Scottish club are understood to have set their asking price at £600,000, which could make him a real bargain and someone that the Potters should be monitoring.

Sources informed Football League World last month that Middlesbrough were one of the clubs interested in Jones, so there will be competition should Stoke move for him.

Left-back is a position that could do with reinforcing and Nottingham Forest's Yuri Ribeiro is set to become a free agent in the summer.

Though he's had his problems during his time with the Reds, when he's been in form the defender's quality has been clear to see.

If Stoke are looking for cover and competition for Morgan Fox at left-back, then they could do much worse than signing the 24-year-old.

He'd be a useful option for Michael O'Neill to have in his squad and might just be a shrewd bit of business with finances likely to be tight this summer.

If O'Neill wants to strengthen his forward line in the summer then Middlesbrough forward Ashley Fletcher could be a smart signing.

The 25-year-old is set to become a free agent at the end of the season and could combine well with more physical forwards like Sam Vokes and Ashley Fletcher.

That duo are now both beyond the age of 30 and with Tyrese Campbell drawing transfer interest previously, it would make sense for the Potters to add someone like Ashley Fletcher to freshen things up a bit.

He's not had the best of seasons for Boro but he's certainly got talent and has scored goals at this level in the past.
