Huddersfield Town are fighting to retain their Championship status in 2020/21.

There was a hugely positive start to the season under Carlos Corberan, who despite some inconsistency, had Huddersfield playing a decent brand of attacking football and picking up enough results to be sat mid-table.

However, since the turn of the year things have soured, with wins hard to come by.

The focus right now is just on retaining a place in the Championship.

What’s around the corner, though, is a huge summer for the Terriers, with players sure to be moving on and others coming through the door to, hopefully, lead the club into a brighter future.

On the topic of those potential incomings, we’ve taken a look at EIGHT players either linked with a move to the John Smith’s Stadium or who should be on the club’s radar.

We start with a man that Football League World understand is firmly on the Huddersfield radar this summer.

Rhodes was a real hit at the John Smith’s Stadium earlier in his career, scoring a heap of goals across a three-year period.

He did the same when he moved on to Blackburn Rovers, but his career has slowly declined with Middlesbrough and Sheffield Wednesday.

However, 2020/21 has been steady for him with the Owls and he’s a free agent in the summer, which could end up leading him back to Huddersfield’s door.

Whether he hits previous heights, who knows, but the club are certainly in for him.

Another Sheffield Wednesday player who is out of contract is Adam Reach, with Football League World understanding that there’s a strong chance of the versatile left-sider moving on.

Whilst there isn’t interest from Huddersfield in Reach, we feel that there should be.

Both Watford and Cardiff City have been suggested as possible destinations, which tells you just how good Reach is.

On a free, he should be high on Huddersfield’s agenda if they are still a Championship side.

He offers versatility and real class, which could be invaluable as the club look to build to a brighter future in the Sky Bet Championship.

This one might depend on Corberan and how much influence he’s got on transfers this summer.

However, it would be stupid for Huddersfield to not try and lean on his contacts at Leeds United to strike a couple of deals.

With regard to Gotts, he has had loans with Lincoln City and Salford City this season, impressing in an attacking midfield berth with the latter.

Corberan knows him from Leeds’ under-23s and knows how to get the best out of him.

The longer the midfielder’s career goes on, the less likely it looks that he will be at Elland Road for the long-haul, which opens up possibilities this summer.

Here, we touch on a player that Huddersfield know all about in Eiting.

Eiting has been on loan in West Yorkshire this season from Ajax, and has made 19 appearances in the Championship.

Earlier in the season he scored three goals and registered three assists, providing tempo for Corberan at a time when the side were doing well.

In January, Eiting picked up a serious knee injury that he’s only just returning from now.

It’s disappointing for him, then, that his spell with the Terriers has gone like this.

You’d love to see him get a chance to return in 2021/22 and try to piece together an injury-free campaign.

As per Tom Barclay, Huddersfield are amongst a host of clubs in the Championship that are interested in signing Dion Charles from Accrington Stanley.

Charles is 25-years-old and has been seriously impressive this season for Accrington in League One.

Naturally, the next step for him is going to be into the Championship and with Huddersfield needing a striker, there’s no reason why they can’t be the club to land his signature.

However, interest from clubs like Derby County makes things a little bit more complicated.

It might be a case of stumping up a decent wedge of cash to get the deal done.

Van der Berg was part of the deal that took Ben Davies from Preston North End to Liverpool in the January transfer window, with the Reds youngster probably the more successful end of the deal at this stage.

The 19-year-old has had a decent impact in the North End defence, stepping up well in tough circumstances at Deepdale.

The Athletic have reported that Championship clubs are interested in signing van der Berg for next season and, for us, there’s no reason why Huddersfield shouldn’t be on that list.

He’s raw at 19, but has all the potential to be a really good addition in the heart of the Huddersfield defence.

As per Football Insider reports, Birmingham City and Coventry City are both interested in signing Lang from Wigan Athletic this summer.

The 22-year-old has enjoyed a real breakthrough year at the DW Stadium, impressing in a side that’s struggling.

It’s exactly the type of signing that Huddersfield should be looking to make this summer, poaching exciting talent from (hopefully) the lower leagues.

When you think of Karlan Grant and Josh Koroma, they’ve taken similar paths in their careers and been good for Huddersfield.

You can’t imagine it would be an overly expensive deal to do either, which means it makes complete sense for the Terriers to get involved in the chase for Lang.

Similarly to Gotts, this one might depend on Corberan.

McCalmont is a Leeds United academy graduate and, arguably, one of the Whites’ most exciting midfield players.

He’s already a Northern Irish international and has done superbly on-loan with Oldham Athletic this season.

The midfielder is fast-approaching double figures in terms of goals and has grown tremendously over the last 12 months.

Corberan might not have felt that he was ready for Championship football as he swapped Leeds for Huddersfield, but now he might.

It should be one to consider for the Town head coach as he prepares for the new season.
