Coventry City will be hoping to put together a positive run of results from now until the end of this year's campaign under the management of Mark Robins.

The Sky Blues are currently sat 18th in the Championship table, and will be looking to pull further clear of the Championship relegation zone as the season progresses.

Mark Robins' side beat promotion-chasing Barnsley 2-0 in their most recent match, and will be confident of building on an impressive showing against the Tykes.

It could be an interesting summer ahead for the Sky Blues, as Robins looks to add to his squad for next year's league campaign, with a number of his current first-team players out-of-contract at the end of this season.

We take a look at EIGHT players who Coventry City could target during the summer transfer window ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

Ostigard has been a regular in the Coventry City team this season, and has made 39 appearances in total for the Sky Blues, as they battle to stay in the Championship.

The central defender is currently on loan with Mark Robins' side from Brighton and Hove Albion, but the club should certainly look at signing him on a permanent deal in the summer.

He's a player that has endeared himself to the Coventry City supporters, and you would imagine that they'll be eager to see him extend his stay with the club.

He's shown that he can perform to a relatively high standard in the Championship, and is certainly a player they should be looking at signing permanently at the end of the 2020/21 season.

Dion Charles is the next player on the list, with the Accrington Stanley forward catching the eye with a number of impressive performances this season.

The striker has 18 goals to his name from his 44 appearances in all competitions this term, and is already attracting interest from other clubs heading into the summer transfer window.

It seems as though Accrington Stanley will find it tough to keep Charles at the club heading into the new season, as the prospect of playing at a higher level than League One is likely to be too good for an option to turn down.

Coventry City could benefit from signing another forward in the summer, with Viktor Gyökeres's loan spell with the club set to reach a conclusion at the end of the season.

This is a potential deal that could depend on whether Derby County are relegated into the third-tier of English football.

Wisdom has been with the Rams since 2017, and has been a regular in their starting XI this season, in what has been a frustrating season so far for Wayne Rooney's side.

The Rams are just four points clear of the relegation zone in the second-tier, and will face a nervy wait, with 22nd-placed Rotherham United having two matches in hand on Derby County.

Wisdom is out-of-contract at the end of the 2020/21 season, and could be worth looking at signing for Coventry, who could benefit from adding to their defensive options, with both Dominic Hyam and Kyle McFadzean's contracts both set to expire in the summer.

Ward has been with Peterborough United since 2018, and has caught the eye with a number of strong performances for the League One side.

The winger has made 35 appearances in all competitions this term, and has chipped in with four goals and 12 assists in all competitions Peterborough United, who are in contention to win promotion into the Championship this term.

Ward has certainly played his part in their push for promotion into the second-tier this term, and is currently third on the list for the players with the most assists this season in League One.

Coventry City could benefit from signing a player with his creative ability, and the likes of Tyler Walker and Matt Godden could benefit from Ward's ability on the ball.

Rhodes is another player that is out-of-contract at the end of this year's campaign, and is likely to be attracting interest from a number of clubs.

The forward had shown his quality in front of goal earlier in his career, but has struggled for a consistent run in the Sheffield Wednesday team in recent seasons.

He has been linked with a return to Huddersfield Town, but you would imagine that Coventry City could benefit from signing a player of his quality.

The Sky Blues have only scored 39 goals in total this season, and so attacking firepower could be added to their squad in the summer transfer window.

Callum Lang is next up, with the Wigan Athletic man reportedly being a transfer target for Coventry City according to Football Insider.

Lang is entering the final year of his contract with the Latics, and it remains to be seen as to whether he'll stick around at the DW Stadium heading into the 2021/22 season.

Birmingham City are also reportedly interested in a deal to sign Lang, and so it'll be interesting to see which club takes the ascendency in the race to land his signature.

Additional options in attacking positions could be ideal for Coventry City ahead of the new season, as competition for places is rarely a bad dilemma to have for a manager.

Matt Penney could prove to be a shrewd addition for the Sky Blues, with the Sheffield Wednesday full-back featuring in the Championship this term.

Sam McCallum is currently on loan with Coventry City, and has been a regular in the starting XI for Mark Robins' side this season in the Championship, but it seems as though he'll be returning to Norwich City ahead of next year's campaign.

But Coventry City should look at signing Penney in the summer transfer window, with the defender's contract set to expire with the Owls at the end of the 2020/21 season.

Penney has struggled for consistent game time with Sheffield Wednesday this season, with the club looking as though they're going to be relegated, he could be tempted by a move elsewhere in the summer.

Mariappa is currently on the books with Bristol City, but his contract is set to expire at the end of this year's league campaign.

The Jamaican international has made 25 appearances in all competitions this season for the Robins, who are currently sat 14th in the Championship table.

It would come as a surprise to see Mariappa offered a new contract at the end of the season, so he could be on the move in the summer.

Coventry City have defenders' contracts being due to expire in the summer, so they could bolster their options, and signing a player of Mariappa's experience could be beneficial ahead of the 2021/22 season.
