Charlton Athletic will be looking to build on their good start under Nigel Adkins both on and off of the field in the coming weeks and months.

The Addicks are in the fight for the League One play-off places at the moment and Adkins has certainly brought in a fresh feeling of positivity since replacing Lee Bowyer.

Regardless of what happens this season, then, there's hope for a brighter future with Thomas Sandgaard in charge and, of course, attention will soon turn to the summer window and who the Addicks might well be able to target and sign to boost their squad.

With that in mind, we've taking a look at eight players that the Addicks might be wise to be taking a closer look at right now ahead of a potential summer deal for them...

Scott Twine is a player that has had a fantastic season for Swindon Town this year and there is every chance that he moves on from them in the summer window, with the Robins staring down the barrel of relegation to League Two at the moment.

Indeed, Swindon seem a very unhappy club at the moment with various off-field issues grabbing the headlines and Twine may well feel he's better off out of it already.

He's done well at League One and League Two level for Swindon and Newport County respectively and moving to a club like Charlton seems a really positive step that he could make.

Jayden Stockley is another player Charlton should potentially be looking at, with him obviously already familiar with the club.

He's done a decent job since arriving on-loan from Preston North End and Charlton absolutely need to have a main centre-forward for next season.

The likes of Conor Washington have done well this year but he needs to be playing off of a focal point in many ways and Stockley obviously represents that.

He's a player that is scoring goals at this level and if Preston cannot find room for him Charlton may well be wise to get a longer deal sorted for him.

Stephen Humphrys could be an alternative to Stockley.

As mentioned, Charlton do still need to add another 'typical number 9' type forward to their attacking ranks for the longer term and if they cannot do a deal for Stockley or do not want to, Humphrys might be a decent option to look at.

The striker has done well for Rochdale this season despite their obvious struggles in the league and he looks a player ready for a step to something bigger, with all due respect to Dale.

He's a player that Charlton know about after a thumping free-kick that he scored in the 4-4 draw between the clubs earlier this season and could be worth a look.

Akin Odimayo is a good young player that has surely got clubs queuing up to sign him on for next season.

Again, like Twine, he is at Swindon but despite their struggles he has had a really good campaign and is a player that has a hugely bright future ahead of him provided he makes the right career moves.

Charlton have shown time and again that they are a side that brings through good players and helps kick their careers on and they could really do that for Odimayo if they signed him.

The defender is linked with Sheffield Wednesday at the moment but there's no reason why Charlton couldn't get him.

Akin Famewo is another player currently at Charlton on loan and there's every chance he is a player that the Addicks should be looking to keep for next season if possible.

He's done well on loan from Norwich City, despite some injuries, and with the Canaries heading to the Premier League next season it is hard to see whether he gets much game time for them next year.

Indeed, another loan could be in the offing at least and if Charlton are in the Championship particularly, they could be able to get him in.

Even remaining in League One, though, could still see them able to potentially get him.

Will Boyle is up next on our list.

The centre-half has had a good spell at Cheltenham Town this year with him helping them challenge for promotion into League One from League Two.

An injury has meant that he is going to miss the rest of this season now, but he is still a player that plenty of clubs should be taking a look at.

Indeed, if Charlton do not keep Famewo and someone like Deji Oshilaja leaves the club they are going to be short at centre-half so a new defensive arrival, or perhaps more than one, would be ideal this summer.

Ian Maatsen is the final loan player that Charlton should be looking to potentially keep on for next season.

The Chelsea man might not be available for a permanent deal just yet, of course, but there's every chance that the Blues are willing to see him head out on loan.

Indeed, they could be intrigued by developments at The Valley that have seen Maatsen moved to right-wing under Nigel Adkins in recent matches and that might be something that they want to see more of.

If Adkins can suddenly unlock something extra from Maatsen, with him already a talented youngster, then Chelsea would surely love to see him remain at Charlton for a little longer.

Ben House rounds off our list.

The striker is currently playing at Eastleigh and has been linked with Charlton already this season with Football Insider suggesting back in December that the Addicks were among the clubs taking a closer look at him.

He's a striker that obviously wants to climb up the football pyramid and Charlton have shown their ability to pick up such players and really offer him a platform to shine.

Of course, the Addicks have changed manager since this link emerged so it remains to be seen if they are interested in him.
