It seems inevitable that the 2021 summer transfer window, will be a busy one for Blackburn Rovers.

With 11 senior players out of contract at Ewood Park at the end of this season, and five more only on loan until the end of the current campaign, there are plenty of individuals that Rovers will either need to secure new deals for, or replace in the market.

Having seemingly secured their place in the Championship for next season, that is something Blackburn can now start to plan for this summer, where it does seem as though there could be something of a turnover of players at Ewood Park.

But just who could Blackburn bring in to ensure that they are in a stronger position to compete for a place in the play-offs during the 2021/22 campaign?

Here, in order to find out, we've taken a look eight players who either have been linked with a move to Ewood Park recently, or who Blackburn could benefit from signing in the summer transfer window, were they to complete a deal for that individual.

We start this list with Morecambe winger Carlos Mendes Gomes, whose performances this season have seen him start to attract attention from Blackburn, according to recent reports.

The former Atletico Madrid youth man has been in outstanding form for the Shrimps this season, scoring 15 goals and providing four assists to help Morecambe mount a somewhat unexpected League Two promotion push this season.

He is out of contract this summer, so could be affordable for Rovers, and may be able to add a much needed attacking threat to Blackburn's wide areas with the on-loan Harvery Elliott set to return to parent club Liverpool, although with Scottish champions Rangers also said to be interested in the Morecambe man, this may not be an easy deal for the Lancashire club to pull off.

With speculation around the future of top scorer Adam Armstrong refusing to go away as we approach the summer window, Rovers may need to think about a replacement striker, to potentially fill that goalscoring void.

One option that has emerged to potentially do that is Jerry Yates, with reports from Football Insider claiming that Blackburn, along with Championship rivals Bristol City and Nottingham Forest, are interested in a move for the Blackpool striker.

Yates has scored 18 league goals this season to help the Seasiders mount a strong push for a League One play-off place, but with two mores years remaining on his Blackpool contract, and his current manager Neil Critchley insisting he is not for sale, this is another that could be tricky for Rovers to complete.

Another League One striker it seems Blackburn are considering a possible move for this summer, is Rochdale's Stephen Humphrys, with reports claiming Rovers are one of several Championship sides interested in the 23-year-old.

Having only joined from Southend last summer, Humphrys has scored ten goals in 25 league appearances for Rochdale this season, indicating he is capable of finding the net even in a side struggling against the threat of relegation.

Indeed, if Rochdale do drop into League Two next season, then with Humphrys contract entering its final 12 months this summer - making this the last chance 'Dale could have to receive a fee for him - this could be a feasible deal for Rovers to pull off, certainly from a financial perspective.

One other place Rovers could look to source a replacement for Armstrong from should they need one, is the Scottish Premiership, where it seems one candidate for that role, is Dundee United's Lawrence Shankland.

As exclusively revealed by Football League World, Shankland is one of those who Rovers are considering a potential move for this summer, as they assess their options in readiness for the eventuality that Armstrong does make the move to the Premier League.

Having previously been prolific in the Scottish lower leagues, Shankland has scored seven goals in 29 top-flight appearances for Dundee United this season, and he is set to enter the final year of his contract at Tannadice Park this summer.

With a number of central midfielders such as Joe Rothwell, Lewis Holtby, Bradley Johnson, Corry Evans and Stewart Downing approaching the end of their contracts at Ewood Park, that is another position Rovers may need to target this summer.

One option who is seemingly on the radar in that area of the pitch for Rovers is Ipswich Town's Andre Dozzell, who Blackburn were reportedly due to watch earlier this year with the view to a potential summer move.

Rovers' Championship rivals QPR are also said to be interested in Dozzell, who has made a total of 88 appearances in all competitions for the Tractor Boys, although the 21-year-old does have a contract at Portman Road until the summer of 2024.

With both Ryan Nyambe and Joe Rankin-Costello approaching the end of their contracts at Ewood Park, right-back is another position Blackburn may well need to address come the end of the season.

One option to fill that role that it could be worth considering for Rovers, is Rotherham's Matt Olosunde, who has certainly impressed since making the step up to the Championship this season, not least against Blackburn at Ewood Park earlier in the campaign.

Rotherham manager Paul Warne has already indicated that the club face a tricky situation with regards to Olosunde's future, with his current contract at The New York Stadium expiring this summer, meaning this could be an affordable deal for Blackburn, particularly if the Millers are relegated to League One this season.

With Daniel Ayala yet to really prove his fitness this season and Scott Wharton not set to be fit by the start of the new campaign, central defence is another area that Blackburn may need to look at this summer.

One man who is already well known to Rovers that they could look to bring back to Ewood Park to help solve that problem is Taylor Harwood-Bellis, who has been outstanding since joining the club on loan from Manchester City on the final day of the winter transfer window.

That may be challenging to do for Blackburn with Premier League duo Brighton and Leeds both credited with an interest in the 19-year-old, but given their location, and the fact that the teenager knows the club, it would surely be worth Rovers at least trying to get something done here, considering how impressive Harwood-Bellis has been since moving to Ewood Park.

Another familiar face Blackburn may look to bring back to Ewood Park for next season, is Barry Douglas.

While they have signed Harry Pickering for next season, with Amari'i Bell's contract set to expire at the end of this season, Rovers will still need another left-back option for next season, and given he has  become first-choice in that position since joining on loan from Leeds last summer, Douglas would be a logical target here.

Indeed, with his Leeds contract expiring this summer there may be an opportunity for Blackburn to take advantage of here, and Douglas' experience could certainly make the 31-year-old a useful source of insight for the 22-year-old Pickering.
