With the January window now upon us, Nottingham Forest are likely to be relatively active in the transfer market.

The Reds currently sit fourth in the Sky Bet Championship table after winning their last three league games, and nine points off second place with a game in hand.

A top six finish is undoubtedly the aim for the Reds who have flourished under the watchful eye of Sabri Lamouchi, with the Frenchman looking to achieve promotion in his first year at the City Ground.

This month's transfer business will be crucial for the Reds, as they look to make a long-awaited return to the top-flight come the end of the season.

A striker is likely to be on the radar as they look to provide cover for Lewis Grabban, with Rafa Mir's future on Trentside looking uncertain. With interest rising in Joao Carvalho, too, there could be a fair few outgoings at the City Ground over the course of the window.

Here, we take a look at eight players Forest should look to sign this month...

Dwight Gayle is a player that nearly every Forest fan want to see the club try to sign this month.

The Telegraph claim that Newcastle want around £15m for the forward amid interest from the Reds, as well as West Bromwich Albion and Leeds United.

The 29-year-old scored 24 goals for West Brom last season and scored 23 goals as Newcastle won promotion to the Premier League in 2017, so he knows what it takes to score goals and be successful at this level.

Che Adams is another proven forward that has been linked with a move to Forest, and he would be a shrewd addition even on loan.

The 23-year-old scored 22 goals in all competitions for Birmingham City last season, before moving to Premier League side Southampton in the summer.

The powerful striker has found regular game time hard to come by at St. Mary's though, making only eight league starts and failing to find the back of the net as of yet.

Lamouchi is no stranger to Sakho having brought him to Rennes from West Ham United in 2018, and the Reds have since been linked with his signature.

The 30-year-old scored 24 goals in over 70 games for the Hammers, but is now a free agent having been recently let go by Rennes.

He is a pacey, powerful striker who wouldn't cost a transfer fee, and that could turn out to be beneficial for the Reds.

With Michael Dawson approaching the latter stages of his career, a new defender could be on the radar for the Reds.

Ben Gibson is completely out-of-favour at Burnley and could be an excellent signing for Forest. The 26-year-old has made just one appearance for Sean Dyche's this season, which came in the Carabao Cup defeat to Sunderland way back in August.

The centre-half has started just one Premier League game since joining Sean Dyche's side from Middlesbrough 2018, but he captained Boro to promotion in 2016, so knows what it takes to be successful at this level.

Scott McKenna was linked with a move to the City Ground in the summer, but he remained at Aberdeen and has continued to be a key player for Scott McKenna's side.

The Scotland international has captained the national team on more than one occasion, and is a natural leader in the heart of defence.

Having had a reported £5m bid turned down for his services in the summer, Forest should look to go back in for the 23-year-old.

Mavropanos has struggled for regular game time since joining Arsenal in 2018, making just seven Premier League appearances for the Gunners.

The 22-year-old has been linked with a move to Trentside, having played just one game for Arsenal this season, which came in the Europa League last month.

It is unlikely that he will make an impact under Mikel Arteta, and a loan move to the East Midlands could be beneficial for the Greek defender.

A new winger could well be on the radar for the Reds this month as they look to add more goals from midfield.

It would be a huge statement of intent for Forest to sign Bowen - he would cost an arm and a leg, having scored 17 goals and produced six assists already this term.

The winger has attracted interest from the Premier League this season, but if Forest are serious about promotion, then they could look to spend big on him.

Marcus Maddison is arguably the most exciting player to watch outside of the Championship and could be a shrewd acquisition for Forest.

The attacking midfielder, capable of playing out wide or behind the striker, has scored 10 goals and produced eight assists for Peterborough United this term.

He could be a perfect player to suit Lamouchi's favoured 4-2-3-1 system.
