With the transfer window now open for League Two sides, it will be intriguing to see whether Cambridge United manager Colin Calderwood opts to make any significant changes to his side.

Having experienced a mixed start to the 2019/20 campaign, the U's currently find themselves 13th in the League Two standings.

Given that Cambridge are 10 points adrift of seventh place, Calderwood will have to get his recruitment spot on this month if his side are to have any chance of reaching the play-offs in May.

Whilst the U's may also use the coming weeks to cut ties with players who have failed to deliver the goods this season, it would not be at all surprising if they bring in a number of fresh faces.

Here, we take a look at eight players that Cambridge should try to sign this month...

A stand-out performer for Torquay this season, Jamie Reid has already found the back of the net on 16 occasions in the National League.

Given that Cambridge have only managed to score 30 goals in 26 league games, it may be worth taking a risk on the Gulls forward.

Since joining Boreham Wood last summer, Kabongo Tshimanga has set to the National League alight with his displays in front of goal.

Having netted 15 goals this season, the forward may be ready to make the step up to League Two level and thus Cambridge ought to consider making a swoop this month.

One of Nottingham Forest's most exciting young prospects, Alex Mighten illustrated some real signs of promise in his professional debut for the club against Chelsea on Sunday.

Capable of playing both as a winger and a striker, the teenager may add some much-needed versatility to the U's current attacking options.

Top goalscorer this season for Derby County's Under-23 side, Jahmal Hector-Ingram may now be ready to make the step up to senior level.

Whilst first-team opportunities at Pride Park are currently limited due to to the presence of Chris Martin and Jack Marriott, there is no reason why the forward cannot go on to achieve a relative amount of success at Cambridge by joining the club on loan.

Although Odin Bailey has failed to kick on since scoring the winner in Birmingham City's clash with Middlesbrough earlier this season, there is no doubting his talent.

If the winger is allowed to make a temporary switch away from St Andrew's by the Blues, the U's should be eyeing up a move for a player who could take them to new heights in League Two.

Another Derby player who Cambridge ought to consider making a move for in January is Louie Sibley who has illustrated some encouraging signs for Phillip Cocu's side this season.

With the U's needing to bolster their options in midfield following the departure of Gary Deegan last month, the 18-year-old may fit the bill.

An exciting talent, Anthony Scully has scored 14 goals in 14 games for West Ham United's Under-23 side this season in all competitions.

Although he has yet to prove himself at senior level, there is no reason why the forward cannot thrive under the guidance of Calderwood who has a wealth of experience when it comes to developing players.

Sutton United's star performer this season, Harry Beautyman has scored 12 goals in the National League in 27 appearances which has helped his side move up to 12th in the standings.

If the midfielder can replicate these performance in the fourth tier for Cambridge, he could help the club achieve a relative amount of success during the remainder of the 2019/20 campaign.
