It's probably fair to say that things are not looking at all good for Swindon Town right now.

Following their 2-1 defeat to bottom club Rochdale on Tuesday night, John Sheridan's side find themselves second bottom of the League One table, four points from safety with just five games of the campaign remaining.

As a result, it looks as though the Robins are now facing an uphill task to avoid suffering an immediate relegation back to League Two this season.

With that in mind, the summer transfer window will inevitably be a busy one for Swindon, as they look to recover and rebuild their squad in the wake of the frustration of the past few months.

That of course, means it is likely that some members of the current squad will either have to be sold or released in order to make room for new recruits at The County Ground.

So here, we've taken a look at eight players who could be set to leave Swindon, over the course of the next few months.

We start this list with a Swindon player whose future has been the subject of much speculation recently, in the form of Scott Twine.

The midfielder only returned to Swindon from a loan spell at Newport in January, having scored seven goals in 24 appearances for the League Two club, and has added a further five goals in 20 games since his return to the County Ground.

Recent reports have claimed that a number of Championship sides, including Brentford, QPR and Luton, and Premier League Burnley, are interested in the 21-year-old, whose Swindon contract expires this summer, meaning it could be hard for the Robins to retain the midfielder beyond this season.

Another member of Swindon's squad who has seemingly been attracting attention from elsewhere ahead of the summer transfer window, is Jack Payne.

The winger, who only joined Swindon from Lincoln City back in the summer transfer window, has scored four goals and provided five assists in 38 league appearances for the Robins so far this season.

Championship side Barnsley have recently been linked with the 26-year-old, and with Payne's contract at Swindon set to expire at the end of next season, the Robins could be tempted to cash in on the attacking midfielder while they still have the chance to do so.

It is not just in the midfield area of the pitch where certain members of Swindon's squad are seemingly attracting attention this season, as evidenced by Akin Odimayo.

Reports from TeamTalk have claimed that Championship quartet Derby, Stoke, Sheffield Wednesday and Preston are interested in a potential move for the centre back come the summer transfer window.

The 20-year-old only joined Swindon last summer, making the move to The County Ground following his release from Reading, and the chance to make a swift return to the second-tier may well be appealing to Odimayo, which could make it hard for the Robins to retain his services given their current precarious situation.

Swindon appeared to have pulled off something of an eye-catching signing last summer, when they completed a deal for Brett Pitman following the striker's release from Portsmouth.

Since then, Pitman has scored nine goals in 37 appearances in all competitions for the Robins, but having only signed a one-deal at The County Ground in the summer, the 33-year-old's future could be up in the air come the summer.

It is possible that Pitman may not want to make the drop back down to League Two level after so many years in League One and the Championship, meaning it could be difficult for Swindon to agree a deal with the striker, should they drop into the fourth-tier of English football.

Missilou only joined Swindon from fellow League One strugglers Northampton Town late in the January transfer window, but hasn't really managed to establish himself at The County Ground since then.

So far, the midfielder has started just six of the 16 league games Swindon have played since his arrival at the club, and he is still waiting for his first goal and assist in the Robins' colours.

As a result, with Missilou having only signed a contract with Swindon until the end of the current campaign, it is possible that the club could be tempted to move him on this summer, if he is unable to start making more of an impact in the final few games of this season.

Grant joined Swindon last summer, making the move from last season's fellow League Two promotion winners Plymouth Argyle, after three seasons at Home Park.

Since his move to the County Ground however, things have been rather frustrating for the attacker, who has been restricted to just 19 appearances for the Robins, during which time he has scored twice.

At 33-years-old, Grant now looks to be approaching the latter stages of his career, and given he only signed a one-year deal with Swindon when he joined, he is another the club may consider moving on at the end of the campaign to help facilitate the arrival of potential new recruits.

Camp only joined Swindon last month, arriving on a short-term deal for the remainder of the season to give the Robins an extra option between the posts.

Since then, the goalkeeper has made six appearances for the Robins, seemingly taking no time in making himself first-choice shot-stopper at the County Ground, although his situation may become interesting as we approach the end of the season.

Having come to Swindon off the back of several years in the Championship with the likes of Birmingham and Coventry, you feel Camp may be reluctant to drop to League Two if they are relegated, while that higher level pedigree could make him expensive for the Robins in terms of a contract, meaning it could be hard for the two parties to agree a deal for the 2021/22 campaign.

Another player who made the drop down from the Championship to join Swindon, is defender Jonathan Grounds.

Like Camp, Grounds found himself a free agent following the expiration of his contract with Birmingham at the end of last season, with the 33-year-old subsequently completing a move to Swindon during the summer transfer window.

Since then, Grounds has made 28 appearances in all competitions for the Robins, but with his contract also expiring at the end of this season, the defender is another who seemingly faces an uncertain future beyond the end of the current campaign, given he is another one who may be unsure about the prospect of dropping into League Two should relegation be confirmed.
