Sheffield United will be back in the Championship next season after a two-year stay in the Premier League.

The Blades have suffered a real case of second season syndrome after a fantastic ninth-placed finish last season - they've only been able to muster 14 points after 31 games though in 2020/21.

It's a real shame for them and perhaps they've missed the vocal Bramall Lane crowd, but now attentions must turn towards rebuilding for next season.

It would be no surprise though if there was a bit of an exodus, whether that is getting rid of players who are no longer required or ones that will attract interest from elsewhere - let's look at eight of them who may depart.

Berge is United's club-record signing having joined last summer - is he really going to stay around for a season in the second tier?

The Norwegian has missed months of the season due to a hamstring injury and there were reports weeks ago that Liverpool were considering him as a Gini Wijnaldum replacement, so the Blades could make their money back or even a profit on the 22-year-old.

After reaching new heights with the Blades, both as a team player and an individual, Lundstram rejected a new contract earlier in the season and it looked like he was a definite exit this summer.

Lundstram though has said that everything is still on the table as regards to his future, but he will probably be aiming for a contract in the Premier League or another top league perhaps - he hasn't really performed this season but he proved last season he has the ability.

Mousset was a club-record buy for Sheffield United at the time in the summer of 2019 when he was purchased from Bournemouth for £10 million, despite only scoring three Premier League goals in three seasons.

He eclipsed that in just one for the Blades by scoring six times in the 2019/20 campaign, but this season has been a different story, playing just nine times after falling out of favour.

Personal matters surrounding the player will not have helped after he was charged following a car crash, and he's likely to be on the transfer list come the summer.

Bryan has never had a good time of things at Bramall Lane, but he's made a bit of progress by playing 10 times for the club this season.

He's still expected to leave the club at the end of his contract though according to The Sun - he may find himself facing the Blades next season with another Championship outfit.

McBurnie may fancy himself to get picked up by another Premier League club based on his performances last year.

This season has been a different story as the Scotland international has scored just once in the top flight - even if he wants to leave though he may just have to settle for a season in the Championship.

What was the point in the Blades signing Rodwell?

He's made just two appearances in all competitions since signing in January 2020 and when his deal is up at the end of this season he probably won't be around - a real waste of a wage.

The Blades actually have two talented right-backs in George Baldock and Jayden Bogle, but there's only really room for one of them to be a starter.

Baldock has Premier League pedigree now having been a starter for two successive years, so a team at that level may take a punt on him.

That would leave the spot in the Blades team free for Bogle to blossom - can they afford to keep both?

Freeman is probably the forgotten man at Bramall Lane - he joined in 2019 when they were promoted to the Premier League but played just 11 times and quickly faded away from Chris Wilder's selection plans.

He returned to the Championship by moving to Nottingham Forest on loan this season, and it doesn't seem like he's impressed that much so it's doubtful they'll activate their permanent option on him.

That would mean Freeman returns to Sheffield United, where they could look to try and move him on for less than they paid for him two years ago.
