Millwall have once again given a brilliant account of themselves under the stewardship of Gary Rowett this term and are quite rightly close to securing a top half finish in the Sky Bet Championship.

Still playing something of a direct style under the experienced boss, the London based outfit had at one point looked like outside contenders for a play-off spot until they hit some inconsistent form.

The likes of Jed Wallace and Bartosz Bialkowski have once again been standout performers, whilst new additions such as Mason Bennett have also impressed at different points of the campaign.

It is however expected that the Lions will overhaul a portion of their squad this summer as they look to go one better next season.

Here, we take a look at EIGHT players that Millwall could sell or release ahead of a busy summer transfer window...

An experienced goalkeeper at Football League level, Fielding has been the firm number two choice between the sticks for the Lions this term and could well leave during the summer in search of more regular first team football at a point in his career where he shouldn't be sat on the bench.

He is one of a number of players who have a contract that expires in June of this year and is sure to have plenty of options coming his way as he weighs up his future in the capital.

A drop down the divisions could well be on the table as it appears unlikely that he will be first choice at a Championship club.

A combative midfield player that knows the New Den like the back of his hand, Williams has been in and out of the team this term and at the age of 31 could be keen to leave in order to secure more regular first team minutes at this stage of his career.

He is likely to be part of this mini overhaul in the summer and it would be fair to assume that he will receive offers from several clubs in England due to his high experience of playing in the Football League over the years.

Given his age, it would be fair to assume that he is likely to move on.

A tricky left sided player who is capable of playing on both the wing and at full back, Ferguson has been a reliable member of the Millwall squad for a good few years now but has fallen out of favour under Rowett of late and is now seen as more of a squad option rather than a regular starter.

His time with the Lions has seemingly run it's course and for that reason he could seek a move away in search of more regular first team football at a stage of his career where he should really be in his prime.

A towering striker who has played his football at several levels of the Football League, Smith has proven to be pretty successful since he arrived at Millwall but has seen his current campaign greatly disrupted by injury and as a result hasn't played as much football as he would have liked under Rowett.

Always a threat due to his size and strength, the towering frontman is sure to not be short of offers this summer as he weighs up his future in the capital.

He could well get a move to another Championship side or maybe seek to drop down the divisions to League One or Two.

One of many experienced Millwall defenders in the current squad, Wallace could well be heading for the exit door this summer as his current contract at the New Den continues to run down, with his future appearing to be uncertain past the end of the campaign.

He has played pretty regularly for the Lions this term and has impressed in patches, which could well mean that he stays put, however he is sure to have plenty of offers on the table for his services when June rolls around.

He could well form part of what would be a mini squad overhaul.

A decent midfield player at both Championship and League One level, Thompson is a midfielder with obvious potential beyond his years that hasn't quite been seen to full effect in a Millwall shirt as of yet and perhaps a move away from the New Den could well do his development good as he bids to become more of a permanent fixture in the second tier.

At the age of 25, he will be undoubtedly be disappointed to see his current deal running down towards expiry and may use that as leverage to get better terms or indeed look elsewhere for another club.

A player who has progressed well through the club's academy in recent seasons, Mitchell has understandably found his route to more first team minutes blocked by the squads more experienced midfield players and as a result has been made to wait for his chance on more than one occasion under Rowett this term.

At his stage of his career he simply has to be playing more regularly and because of this he could well seek a move away this summer for the sake of his own personal development.

His contract is up in just a few months and for that reason he is sure to attract plenty of interest.

Arguably the Championship's best goalkeeper on paper due to the consistency he has shown for the Lions, Bialkowski could well be a wanted man this summer as he only has one year on his current deal with Millwall.

Despite his age, the Pole could arguably still do a job in the Premier League or at another Championship side and may want to weigh up his options slowly after what has been another brilliant campaign for the former Ipswich Town man.

If the club did indeed sell him, they would be sure to receive a good bid for his services and would be likely to make a profit.
