Hull City are edging closer towards an immediate return to the Championship after putting another three points on the board last night.

The Tigers continue to lead the way in Sky Bet League One, sitting three points clear at the top of the table and eight points clear of third.

Both Peterborough United and Sunderland have a game in hand, but Grant McCann's side are in excellent form. They are unbeaten in 10 matches and have picked up 24 points from a possible 30 in that time, producing title-winning performances.

Last night, goals from Keane Lewis-Potter, Josh Magennis and Greg Docherty helped Hull to a big 3-0 away win over Plymouth Argyle to see them make it three wins on the spin.

With promotion on the horizon, McCann will be keen to strengthen his squad as he looks to guide the Tigers to safety and avoid falling back into League One at the first time of asking next season.

Here, we take a look at eight players who Hull could sell or release and make way for potential incomings...

de Wijs' future at the KCOM Stadium looks uncertain.

The defender left Hull in January and joined QPR on loan with a view to a permanent transfer.

The centre-half made only seven appearances for Hull in the first half of the season before leaving for West London, and has since made only six appearances for the R's.

His contract is up at Hull at the end of the season, and there is every chance of QPR activating their option to bring him to the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium permanently.

He's only 26 and is likely to make the move to West London for good this summer.

Long's future at the KCOM Stadium also looks uncertain.

He has had to play as backup to Matt Ingram this season, with the latter making 33 appearances in League One this term.

Long, meanwhile, has made only eight appearances in League One this term and hasn't featured since a 1-0 defeat to Burton Albion in February.

With his contract at the KCOM up in the summer, there is every chance of him leaving at the end of his deal to become a first-choice goalkeeper elsewhere.

It could be the end of the road for the 27-year-old.

Magennis' contract at the KCOM is up at the end of the season, however Hull do have the option to extend it by a further year.

But the form Magennis has shown this season could attract potential suitors from elsewhere.

The Northern Ireland international has scored 13 goals in 35 League One appearances this term, and interest from elsewhere could come about this summer.

If it does, then Hull are likely to extend his deal so that they would demand a fee off someone, but it's an interesting thing to consider.

Another attacker who has caught the eye this season is Wilks.

Football League World have been informed that Premier League side Burnley are keeping tabs on the attacker, who has spearheaded the Tigers to a title charge this term.

The 22-year-old has scored 18 goals in League One this season, and he has also scored 21 goals in 45 appearances across all competitions.

Even if promotion materialises, there is every chance of interest emerging in the 22-year-old, and it may be hard for the Tigers to resist temptation to cash in.

Burke has been a key player for the Tigers under McCann this season.

The 24-year-old penned a three-year deal from West Ham United in the summer of 2018, and has made 109 appearances for the club.

Burke has made 31 starts in League One this term, helping Hull boast one of the best defensive records in League One.

The defender has scored five goals across all competitions this season, but if interest emerges between now and the end of the season, then it could sway his decision to put pen to paper on a new deal at the KCOM.

Clark returned to Hull after a positive two-and-a-half years in the Netherlands with Eredivisie side Vitesse, becoming the Tigers' fourth January signing.

Clark has been unable to make a single appearance for the Tigers since returning to the KCOM, though, and he picked up a hamstring injury last month which sidelined him for a further few weeks.

Clark penned a short-term deal until the end of the season when he joined a couple of months ago, and you have to question whether it would be value for money if he did sign.

He has been injured a lot of late, so can you trust him to play week in, week out on a regular basis next season?

What a season Keane Lewis-Potter has had.

The homegrown star made plenty of appearances in the Tigers last season, making 21 appearances and scoring twice.

The 20-year-old attacker has gone from strength to strength this season, scoring 11 goals and chippin in with six assists in 38 league outings.

He has plenty of potential and plenty of quality in the final third, making him potentially a very exciting asset for anyone wishing to buy him this summer.

It will be interesting to see if interest emerges this summer and it will be interesting to see Hull would respond.

Docherty is another player who has been a standout perfumer for the club this season.

The 24-year-old has made 39 league appearances in the third tier this season, scoring five goals and chipping in with three assists from midfield.

He only arrived at the KCOM Stadium in the summer so it's unlikely that the Tigers will sell him, but again, if someone comes in with a bid to good to turn down, it would be interesting to see how the club responds.

Based off his performances this season, it wouldn't be surprising to see interest emerge.
