Coventry City are far from safe in the Sky Bet Championship at the time of writing, with Mark Robins having seen his side slip down to 21st place as we head into the final few rounds of fixtures in the second tier.

They currently hold a six point lead over Rotherham United, however the Millers do have several games in hand on the Midlands club, meaning that the Sky Blues will be keen to pick up some much needed victories to ensure their safety.

The two sides are due to face each other on Thursday in what could be a relegation decider at the New York Stadium and Robins will know that a win on the road for his side would put them in pole position to beat the drop.

Here, we have devised a list of eight players that Coventry City could sell or release this summer.

The experienced centre back is one of many players that could well depart the Midlands club come the end of the campaign, with his current contract due to expire in just a few months. A former MK Dons and Crawley Town man, McFadzean played an important role in getting the club back to the Championship but has seemingly struggled to make the step up for his side when they need him most at times. A move back down the divisions could well be in the offing, with Robins sure to be targeting players at the younger age of spectrum in the transfer market.

The current club skipper is yet another man who finds his future uncertain in the Midlands, with his current contract due to expire in the summer as he weighs up his next career move.

A reliable presence in midfield, Kelly is sure to not be short of offers this summer and could well part ways with his current side if he comes across a better project.

Originally born in Milton Keynes, maybe a move back to his hometown could be in the offing, with the player himself having come through the MK Dons youth academy as a youngster before moving to Kilmarnock in Scotland.

Another player who will soon find himself out of contract with the Sky Blues, Hyam has been almost ever present for his side this term and has appeared 37 times under Robins in the league. Still only aged 25, the Scot will undoubtedly attract interest from further afield as he weighs up his options following a tough season with the Midlands club and could well be in the on the move if the right offer is forthcoming for his services. He could arguably still do a job in the Championship, whilst he is also proven in League One after playing at that level for the Sky Blues.

A striker who has at times looked out of his depth at Championship level, Bakayoko faces a race against time to convince Robins that he deserves another chance with the Sky Blues as his contract continues to run down towards expiry. He has so far failed to find the back of the net in the league this season and arguably would be better off heading to a club in a lower division in order to rediscover his goalscoring touch. Things just aren't working out for the frontman this term and as a result he could be one of the first players to be shown the exit door.

A player with undoubted talent, Jones has seen his progress hampered by injury over the past few seasons and as a result hasn't had the opportunity to really show what he is all about at Championship level, which is something that has saddened both the player and fans of the club. A move away could well be likely as he seeks to rebuild his career and with his contract soon to expire, it could well be the best step for all parties. League One sides are sure to be keen on the winger, whilst other clubs at the lower end of the Championship could well be interested.

Another wide player who could well be released come the summer, Shipley has been on Coventry's books for the entirety of his career so far and would surely be keen to extend his stay with his boyhood club as opposed to moving elsewhere. He has played his fair share of football this term but has largely failed to make a lasting impact at Championship level and may well be better suited to moving back down the divisions to rediscover some consistency in his play. Still aged 23, there is plenty of time for the midfielder to turn things around and he could well still do that at the Ricoh Arena.

A young centre back who came through the club's youth academy, Thompson has featured on very few occasions for the first team this season and could well be heading for the exit door as his deal runs down towards expiry. He has spent a few spells in non league previously but would be better suited to making a move to either a League One or Two side in a bid to get more regular minutes under his belt. He is still only 22 and has the best years ahead of him although it remains to be seen whether those will be spent on Coventry's books or not.

The former Sutton United striker has flattered to deceive for the Sky Blues this term and as a result they could well ship him out of the club come the summer if he continues in his current vein of form. He has only found the net on four occasions in the league this season and serves as a key example of why the club are where they are in the standings. A move back to France or to a another English side lower down the leagues could well beckon for the target man as he still has a lot to offer at the age of 30.
