Barnsley have been the success story of the season in the Championship, with Valérien Ismaël's men pushing for promotion to the Premier League.

When the Frenchman arrived in October, his immediate priority would've been to keep the Tykes in the league, but he has gone on to exceed expectations spectacularly.

Whilst Ismaël deserves enormous credit for the turnaround, Barnsley are a well-run club who have been operating shrewdly in the transfer market.

Part of that has been a willingness to cash in on players if a suitable offer arrives, with the recruitment team backed to find replacements at a cheaper price.

It's worked recently and fans will back the decision makers to get it right again this summer. With that in mind, it's sure to be a busy summer whether the Tykes go up or not, and here we look at EIGHT players who could leave Oakwell in the coming months...

The 30-year-old has been a very good signing for Barnsley since he arrived from Wolfsberger, and it may surprise some to see him on the list.

However, Sollbauer is no longer a hugely important player, evident by the fact he has not been used in four of the last seven games. Then, you have his contract situation, with his deal up in the summer of 2022.

So, it's decision time for the player and the club. Given Barnsley's approach, a new, long deal is unlikely, meaning they may look to cash in on the player instead of letting him go on a free in 12 months time.

This is not one that will worry Barnsley fans. The youngster has been a revelation down the left flank, starring in Ismaël's system and impressing with his tenacity and ability.

However, unfortunately for the Tykes, those qualities have caught the eye of other clubs. There's plenty of interest in Styles going into the summer and Barnsley will face a real battle to keep hold of him if they fail to go up.

If he does depart, they're sure to get a significant profit for the youngster, but he will be hard to replace given the way he has played under the current boss.

Someone who will be wanting to leave for different reasons is Odour.

The 21-year-old enjoyed a good first year or so after joining from Leeds United, showing glimpses of his talent and pace when he was given opportunities - whilst fans will never forget that goal he scored at Brentford on the final day of last season.

But, it hasn't clicked for him under Ismaël and Odour just isn't playing games, with the current boss not picking him since before Christmas. For the sake of his career, Odour may need to push for a move.

The versatile former Leeds man has been a very useful player for the Tykes, but he has been less prominent this season, with most of his recent outings coming from the bench.

That's not going to please the 22-year-old, even if he will understand that it's hard to break into the XI right now.

Moving forward though, he may want a clear position and role in the team, instead of coming on as a sub. If that's the case, he may need to depart to a club that will offer him guaranteed minutes and there would be a few takers out there from the Football League if that happened.

This is the one that Barnsley fans are dreading.

Mowatt has been fantastic for the club this season, with his ability on the ball and leadership crucial to putting the Yorkshire side in the position they're in.

Yet, the major issue is his contract. Mowatt is going to be a free agent in the summer and he will have a whole host of clubs ready to offer him a deal - and Barnsley may not be able to compete financially. Promotion seems a must if Mowatt is going to stay at Oakwell.

The talented winger is one of few Barnsley signings that haven't really worked in recent years.

There was a lot of excitement when he joined from Derby and he got off to the perfect start by scoring the winner on his debut. However, whilst he played plenty of games, Thomas didn't really kick-on.

A loan move to Ipswich seemed a good opportunity for the youngster to do well, but that hasn't worked either. With Ismaël openly questioning Thomas' professionalism, he may not want the 22-year-old back, so he could depart permanently in the summer.

The former Celtic attacker was brought to Barnsley and immediately loaned out, with the Scotland youth international highly-rated.

A reasonably productive spell with Forest Green last season suggested Aitchison could make an impact at Oakwell in the future, but his time with Stevenage this season hasn't gone well. He has managed just one goal and isn't a regular in the XI, so it's hard to see how he forces his way in at Barnsley.

Even though he is still young, it may be time for Barnsley to move the forward on permanently instead of just sending him out on loan again.

Finally, Woodrow is another player that Barnsley could struggle to hold on to, especially if they remain in the Championship.

The 26-year-old has delivered three very good seasons for the club, hitting double figures in each campaign, which includes 11 this season, as well as five assists, making him the most productive player at Oakwell.

He perhaps isn't as influential under Ismaël as he has been in the past, but that form will have still attracted attention. Pleasingly for Barnsley, they have tied Woodrow down until 2023, but if a decent fee comes in a transfer could happen.
